HI All - - I had WSL - RYN in Oct 2001 and this past yearI am slowly slipping back up to be pre-surgery weight. I have about 55# and Ill be there. HELP--- need to ome advice.  During the 1st phases of eating all I was  eating was chicken so I can hardly stand the taste of it.,...... the shakes make me hungry after about 2 hours and the protein bars I have looked at containt sooooo much sugar which is my down fall.  I went through a bad break-up & I think it might be more "head hunger" that the real thing but I am SOOOOOOOOOO scared of going back to my pre-sUrgery weight......and trying to date since I have put back on 40 lbs.......... help    I even notice my joints hurting from the weight I have put back on. After my surgery my surgeon pretty much left me out to dry.....he had his $$$$$ so there was hardly any follow up. I tried to go to another surgeon but since he didnt so the original he would not help .

Question has anyone had the surgery done for the 2nd time as I know my oluch has extended as I can eat somuch more than before.  Does insurance cover it for a 2nd time?

THANK YOU

I don't have any advice... I'm starting over too. But I just wanted to wish you luck and let you know you're not alone in this!!!

I'm curious about the question on a 2nd surgery.... is that really an option? Do you know of others that have done this?

Good luck to us both!

If you are going to get a revision look into the DS.  It has better percentages of estimated weight loss and at keeping the weight off long term.  Plus you will have a fully functioning stomach and no pouch that will stretch out.  It is just a suggestion to go to the ds board and ask some questions.  Hope all works out for you.
Take care and GOD BLESS

Compulsive Overeating is a disease that most obese people suffer from. No surgery will cure this disease of the mind. Only working on the reasons WHY we overeat (stress, bad break-ups), and avoiding trigger foods and situations will help reduce these bingeing behaviors. We need to re-work all that wrong-thinking that's in our heads and get back to a healthy relationship with food. People of a normal weight do not USE food in the same way that we do--and their stomachs are bigger than even a stretched-out pouch!

My advice is to check out Overeaters Anonymous. There're usually several groups in one area, and they can be a real resource when we feel out of control. OH is great, but it is even better to have someone to call and say,"My ex just showed up and we had a big fight. I want to buy donuts and just eat the entire box!"

P.S. My doc told me never to eat protein bars because they are usually full of sugar and additives.

Great comments and advice. A revision won't help if there's no control in the eating department.

I would add.... that you may want to join one of the free nutrition sites like Livestrong's Daily Plate and start charting your intake. It will give you a calorie goal if you tell it your age, weight, and weight loss expectation per week.

You can chart your weight progress, your intake, keep an eye on percentages of protein intake vs carbs and fats. You can also chart your exercise there.

It's personal accountability. It has helped me overcome my "eating just whatever" which I did pre-op.

I was watching "THE DOCTORS' a few months back and they were showing a new surgery that can be done less evasive - they pleat the stomach pouch...tey did it on a lady who had the surgery and had gained alot of weight back - you may check into that...and possibly start the liquid diet ( pre surgery) again and start fresh.

I know there are alot of new things than before out on the market to make things btter such as PB2.

Good luck - i am 9 days out of surgery so i am scared about that also. my cousin dained some of hers back after surgery..

That's probably Stomaphyx - my surgeon does that as well:

I had RNY in 2001 as well, lost down to 140 lbs, maintained for 5-6 years, and then gained back 50 over the last 2 years.

I knew I had to get my mind right and fix the roots of my evil, so I began to (and still do) see a psych that specializes in WLS patients.  Once I was mentally prepared, I had a lap-band placed over my bypass on 5/28/09 (aka "BOB": band-over-bypass) and have since lost 41 lbs of the 50 I have gained.  It has definitely changed my life.

Any other questions, feel free to ask or read the blog entry archives on my profile page.  My BOB life is an open book!  Good luck.

Congratulations to your new weight loss!! I had my RNY in 2004 and have gained about 40lbs. I am assuming that insurance will not pay for this surgery correct? Is it an expensive surgery and are there many surgeons that will do it?
Thanks for the post, it does give encouragement.
