Failed DS?
I have never heard of anyones ds failing. If you load up on tons of simple carbs and sugars you wont lose as much but if you do protein first and get all your water in it works wonderfully. I had my surgery less than a month ago and have already lost 31 pounds. It is great!
Take care and GOD BLESS

I have heard of one person's failing. But, it was because the surgeon performed it incorrectly (sleeve wasn't shaped or sized properly, anastamosis was performed incorrectly, alimentary canal was entirely too long.) This patient has since been revised to a more TRUE DS by a different surgeon and is doing very well now.
That said, I wouldn't say the surgery failed. The original surgeon failed.
Edit: This person still kept off over 100 lbs, even with the failed surgery. But there was substantial regain which brought their BMI back to 41 or so, thus the need for revision.

I have read of a few people who had complete or a large regain after DS, but I read those posts on some of the DS groups on Yahoo. I'm sure the DS is like all surgeries, and results of the actually surgery will vary from person to person. Overall, it seems like the DS has better results than other types of surgery where weight-loss and lack of regain are concerned, though. It seems like 9 out of 10 of the before and after pics that catch my eye are DS'ers when I click on them, lol!!
I don't know if I have a "failed" DS or not, but right now at least - I am not truly happy.
I am having chronic diarrhea with no control over urgency. I am not losing as quick as most folks despite really watching my carbs.
I don't know what to say - I am not willing to call me/switch a "failure" but I am not a happy consumer.
Good Luck.

Hi Susie,
I have a really hard time sticking to the low carb thing, do you? I know they say that if you can keep your carbs at 50 grams per day (strictly) that you will continue to lose. Eat HIGH Fat, and HIGH Protein and low simple carbohydrates.
How much have you lost so far? You had your DS in July 09? You are still so new. Do you know what your common channel length is? Have you talked to your surgeon about diarrhea? What interventions have you had in regards to this diarrhea so far?
Sorry to hear you're having troubles.
Kathy
Body by God; alterations by Buchwald. I love Jesus. I so so so appreciate my DS.
Hi kitkat,
Thanks for your replies.
I have just been tested for C-Diff (negative).
I am generally eating below 50g's of carbs per day - little to none of it being white flour.
I have been using Imodium with some success. I must take it in order to leave the house otherwise I am a slave to the toilet.
The only thing left is an elimination diet. I have already cut out most dairy other than a small amount of cheese.
I have also heard that chia seeds can help and they will be my next shot I suppose.
Yes, I had my DS on July 4. I have to date lost about 40 pounds which isn't bad. But I am quite a high BMI to start with and usually SMO and especially SMO with chronic diarrhea could have lost more than that.
My surgeon is Dr. Marchesini and my CC is 75.
Thanks for your help/concern.
