Anyone have tricare or triwest? Has anyone's insurance paid for a revision???  I had the lap gastric done 7/2002. at my heighest I weighed 260, my lowest was 150, I got pregnant and gained 30 pounds. I lost about 20 or so...now 3 yrs after my son's birth Im at 197...thats 7 pounds over what I weighed at 9 months pregnant. and trying to look into having a revision. How was your journey towards a revision? I feel so bad that I have let myself down again. I have chronic headaches, get short of breath, and HBP. I have TriWest and located in Tacoma WA near Ft Lewis. Dr. Dewitt (a civilan dr) did my surgery in Alabama a couple of years before I got married and moved to CO, now we're in Washington (husband is active duty Army) I would like to have a revision...I want to find a local dr here and also see if my insurance will cover it. Any ideas anyone?

Did you have Lap Band?  I know a doctor in las vegas (Dr Rutledge) that takes the band out and does his surgery all in one.  He goes in lapriscopacly and it only takes about 45 minutes.  His procedure is called mini gastric bypass.  He has 11 years and 5000 patients under his belt.  I don't know if your insurance would pay for it though.  You might check into it.

Before mine was approved, a triwest rep told me that they DO NOT cover a revision unless there is a medical emergency requiring the revision. She explained that if I regained my weight and encountered inconvenient effects of my weight gain, that I would have to see a Dietician and blah blah blah....

Hope you can find some answers for yout situation. Good luck to you!!

I just had surgery at Madigan---go to your PCM and ask for a referral---there are plenty of people going through revisions through Madigan---It will take a while ---Approx 9 months to get through the "pathways" program they have set up.

For more info post this on the Washington State forum---there is aleast 1 person on there that is going for a revision at Madigan.

Hope this helps!

Have you tried starting over?  Do the 5 day pouch test and get back to basics.  If you had the RNY, you may have stretched your pouch but you still don't absorb as much of the bad stuff.  Try starting over.  Journal all your food.  Get in ALL of your water every day.  Get your protein back up to at least 80 gms/day, lower your carb intake and exercise.  Even just 30 minutes of walking every day will take it off.  If it's too hot, just walk briskly in place while watching a 30 minute show on tv.  I know a nurse that worked for a bariatric surgeon who wanted to lose weight and she just followed our post-op regime and lost all her extra weight without ever having the surgery.  Good luck.

If you read in the tricare handbook it states if there is a problem with a prior WLS, tricare will pay for it. Get a barium test with a small bowel follow through at Ft. Lewis., to see if you are having a true problem.
