I had an open RNY in 2004. Iwas 406 lbs. I lost 126lbs very quickly in about 6 months or so then had a BIG stall. I held that weight of 280 for about 3 yrs but after losing my job, now at a desk job and breaking up with my fiance I started gain9ing weight again. It wasn't much aty first like 30 lbs or so. But I then hurt my foot and had foot surgery, after that I think I gained 100 lbs in a year.
I joined WW and when I goton their scale I almost died inside. I was 428 lbs!!!
I have been trying to avoid having a revision or anything like that, I am not sure I could get that time off of work, and if my insurance would pay.  Anyway, I have been doing WW for 4 months now and have lost 28lbs. It's so hard, I would think that it would be easier to lose the weight because my body doesnt digest the same as a normal person who hasn't had WLS. I go to the gym 3-5 times a week but its a slow road. I was wondering what you have done to lose the weight again? What worked for you? Has anyone tried the Alli and has that helped any?  I need some help here!!!

weight regain isn't all that uncommon with an RNY when you're super morbidly obese to begin with like I was  I went from 345 to 175 and am back to 340, seeking a revision to a DS.  There's just something metobolically not working right.   The RNY is successful for many, but of all the surgeries has the highest regain statistics, especially for someone our size.  You need something with both a restrictive and malabsorbtion component.  You should check out the Duodenal switch if you choose to research for a revision.  I know how you feel, how horribe it is to be back here again!

Did your insurance cover your lapband? I had the lap gastric done 7/2002. at my heighest I weighed 260, my lowest was 150, I got pregnant and gained 30 pounds. I lost about 20 or so...now 3 yrs after my son's birth Im at 197...thats 7 pounds over what I weighed at 9 months pregnant. and trying to look into having a revision. How was your journey towards a revision? I feel so bad that I have let myself down again. I have TriWest and located in Tacoma WA near Ft Lewis. Dr. Dewitt (a civilan dr) did my surgery in Alabama a couple of years before I got married and moved to CO, now we're in Washington (husband is active duty Army) I would like to have a revision...I want to find a local dr here and also see if my insurance will cover it. Any ideas anyone?

I had an open RNY in 2002.  At my highest I weighed 287, within 6 months I'd lost 100 pounds, and at a year I leveled out at a 124 pound weight loss to weigh in at 163.  I had never felt better.  Over the past 5 years I have managed to gain back 34 pounds.  I had a healthy baby last year, and before my pregnancy I was at 189.  I gained about 24 pounds, which I lost quickly afterwards (due to breastfeeding) plus another 10 pounds, bringing me down to 179.  In the last 6 months I've put back on 17 pounds and I'm closing in on 200.  I'm panicking and don't know how to stop this weight gain.  I don't believe I would qualify for a revision, or one that would be covered by my insurance, and I just want to get this kick started to begin losing weight again.  I have not begun exercising because, honestly, I'm exhausted with a 1 year old, two teenagers, a full time job, husband and taking care of my elderly, disabled dad, who lives with us.  I KNOW I need to exercise, but I also need something to get me back on track nutrionally.  I know at one point, years ago on OH, there was a group of people who did a "protein fast" program - does anyone recall that, or does anyone have any suggestions on how to kick-start my weight loss?  I want my surgery to be a success - I want to be able to tell people who ask me that this was one of the best decisions of my life.  HELP!

Is that the same as the 5 day pouch test?

No, but it was similar.  I've just started getting all my food supplies ready to do the 5 day pouch test.  I truly want to get back on track, and from what I've read about it, that sounds like a good way to do it.

I am using sparkpeople.com and going to Diet Center. Granted I just started doing both - but I like Sparkpeople because it keeps me accountable and does cool whiz bang reports on what I do (eating, fitness, and little things like taking my lunch). I go to Diet center becasue I thought I needed some one to be my chear leader and Diet Center is one one one.

I hadn't heard of sparkpeople.com - I'll check it out.  I definitely need a tool to record my activity, eating, etc.

I don't believe we have a Diet Center near us here, but there are other groups - I'm lucky that I have a wonderful DH who is very supportive and wants me to succeed.  He's going to "diet" with me and help me to find time to exercise - which is always a difficult thing for me (I work full time, have two teenage daughters and a 1 year old son).

It is a shame that we have all had surgery only to wind up back where we were.... NONE of the insurance companies want to help us after the initial WLS.  Maybe we should go back to the doctor's office or something.  I am almost back up to my original weight also and I had RNY in 2003.  I was down to 174 at one time and now I am 243 and closing in on 300 lbs. FAST.  Oh well, nothing else in my life has worked out for the "good"... I guess I was stupid to think this would work and nothing else has.

Well, I understand the feeling of nothing working out for the "good" but I refuse to let that stop me. I have no other choice but keep trying with the weigh****chers, a revision surgery is not an option for me. Unless of course I found a way to pay for the whole thing myself out of pocket. I checked with my insurance company and they only pay for second time around/revisions if there is something seriously wrong with my original. SO I don;t think I could get them to do it. I have a way of getting insurance companies to pay things(that's what I do for a living, I a a medical biller/coder) but I don;t think I am gonna convince them to pay for this one.
I just came home from weigh****chers weekly weigh in and I have gained another 3 lbs this week...WTH... though I can't be greedy. I lost 7.8 last week and when I originally posted I had lost 28 pounds I am not down 33 lbs.  so I guess that is something.  It's just so hard not to get discouraged.....
