Feeling like a failure, and I need a pick me up!

Hello everyone,
I had RNY done in in '06, and I lost 125# and kept it off for approximately 2 years.  Since then, I had gained about 20lbs of that 125, and I seemed to be at my body's comfortable weight (which was fine with me since I was still within normal range).  Well, since then, in the last 6 months, I have put on 60 pounds!  I am not eating any differently, and I have even tried "the pouch test" several times with no benefit.  I don't lose weight, and I don't ever feel that restricted/full feeling anymore.  I am not eating unhealthy, and I am eating low enough calories that I should actually be LOSING.  I am a bit less active, but not by choice.  I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 4 months ago, and I am now being tested for Lupus, so I am in a lot of pain.  I still try to walk several times a week, and I do peddle a stationary bike at least 15 minutes a day.
I am in so much shame from this weight gain, that I haven't contacted my bariatric surgeon.  I have spoken with my primary care Dr., and she keeps insinuating that I "MUST" be eating unhealthy, and wants me to fess up.  Thank goodness my husband was there with me and told her that he is the cook in the house, and he KNOWS that I only eat 2 protein shakes, a small low fat protein/veggie meal and one fruit snack.  This is less than I was eating when I lost the weight.  I need help deciding what to do.  Should I contact my bariatric surgeon?  Is this my fault?  What did I do wrong?  I am seriously feeling like a failure and am very down because of it.  This along with the chronic pain is too much to deal with.
Any advice or words of encouragement are greatly appreciated!

I'm so sorry!  Please contact your bariatric surgeon.  It is possible that your pouch is malfunctioning...I don't know the right words as I didn't have a RNY, but pouches can sometimes fail.  They can do some kind of scope/x-ray and see what is happening.

I truly do NOT believe this is your fault at all.  But you need to get to the bottom of it before you end up gaining back all of your weight.  Please, call your surgeon.

Hugs to you,

Felicia

Are you currently taking medications for your Fibro? I have it as well and the side affect for several of the meds that treat fibro is weight gain. I know that I gained quite a bit of weight when I began taking Neurontin. Just a thought.

I wish you the best of luck.

I am not on any meds specifically for the fibro, but they have me on meds to help control the pain and the sleepless nights.  I am on Tylenol #3 and Trazodone for sleep.  I was also put on Estrogen about the same time since my blood test showed I was in full menopause (I'm 37).  I know that the Estrogen and the Trazodone can cause weight gain, but neither Drs recognize this, and say it must be what I'm eating.  When I tell them that I am being "good", they say then maybe I need to stop all the meds.  Ok, so I either live in MAJOR pain and not sleep, or I become fater and fater until I die of the morbidities that come along with it?
I'm so frustrated, and I feel like I have been ignored and blamed one too many times..
Thank you both for "listening"!

I would contact a surgeon but not the original one.  I had the same problem you're experiencing and gained all my weight back.  I wasn't sitting around eating bon bons and cake.  I worked at it, went from 345 to 175 and was there for about 5 minutes.  I've since decided to go for a Duodenal switch - I need both the restrictive and malaborption component of that surgery. Good luck, I know how frustrating the experience is and how devastating it is to think you're back where you started.  Don't beat yourself up - the RNY has the largest weight regain statistics of all the bariatric surgeries.

I feel you!  I had RNY June 2004. Went from 427 to 199, today I am 270. My hubby had his in 2003, went from 462 to 230, today he is 300. We both kept it off well past the " window" but gained it after. I kept mine off until 2007. I can eat all day, it's so frustrating!

I would definitely go back to your surgeon and have your stoma checked and your pouch checked to see if either of them have stretched out. I know they have a revision now that is done without having to do surgery so it's possible you may need that. I haven't had my surgery yet, but I do know a few people who have had that happen and had the revision with great results.
