Hi, I suggest you take a look on the DS board here on OH.  Also check out dsfacts.com and duodenalswitch.com.  There is a ton of information available.

Good luck to you.  And you're not alone with your RNY surgery.  I personally know 3 people who have either failed to reach goal (by a bunch) or have regained back to where they were with before surgery.

I'm gonna give you the bad news first, which is it would have been much safer/easier if you'd had the DS first, as revisions carry more risk. That cut up tummy with the blind stomach and severed pylorus has to be patched back together, in order to make a sleeve, which is just like smaller but complete, fully functioning stomach. Because of this, you should only select a very experienced revision surgeon. The most reliable list is at DSfacts.com. Lucky for you, there are some surgeons that are true rock stars of revision surgery, that have fixed people with ripped staple lines or eroded stomachs from bands, so you won't be a big deal, you'll just be a regular revision.

Other than that, you must be committed to taking your vitamins, but if you have RNY, you should already be in the habit. You need to eat protein first, then veggies, then complex carbs. Simple carbs like white flour makes many people gassy (I guess you may have that with RNY too, but it doesn't apply to everyone, like me).

The good news is, that it really is as awesome as it sounds. You do not get stuck food, strictures, sliming or dumping. It has the best statistics for losing the excess weight, keeping that weight off, and resolving co-morbiditys. You can take NSAID type pain releivers. There are no off-limit foods.

Since many of the DS board are revisions from RNY and band, I suggest you ask this there as well. There is more daily traffic there for peeps to see and help.

The truth about the DS:

Your farts will stink. But then, mine stank before I had surgery. Yours probably do too. (*grin*) The more simple carbs you eat, the more farts you'll *probably* have. I fart about as much post-op as I did pre-op, but I rarely ever have 'uncontrolable' gas. Quite the opposite, in fact---sometimes I have to work at passing it.

You MUST be faithful about taking your vitamins and supplements, and getting regular bloodwork. You MUST get in your protein, but since you malabsorb most of the fat you eat, that's generally not any trouble. No low- or no-fat 'fake' foods for DSers!

Long-term results---study after study has shown that the DS has the best ones of any form of WLS. I personally am 5.5 years post-op, and effortlessly maintaining my lowest-ever adult weight---while eating bacon, pizza, and cheesecake.

Sorry to co-opt your post, but the OP has me blocked.

The OP is one of the most annoying, self-important, lazy, self-entitled attention-whoring ****waffles to land on the DS board in quite a long time.  She has asked this same question-- AND HAD IT ANSWERED, MULTIPLE MULTIPLE TIMES -- on the DS board, and now has most of the DS veterans blocked because they have gotten sick and tired of her multiple redundant posts, refusal to research even a smidgeon on her own, DEMANDING people to tell her information, even stuff she could find ON THE SAME DAMNED PAGE -- she is a waste of oxygen as well as the electrons it takes to respond.

I still think she might be a troll.  In any case, she doesn't have the "skills" needed to be a successful DSer, and I wouldn't waste any more time trying to answer her redundant questions, which she obviously doesn't read anyway.  Save your responses for someone who is actually listening to you.

You can co-opt me any time, dear. (*grin*)

And I agree about the OPs ****waffle status---just tryin' to pay it forward, no matter how redundant she is.

Well, the ****waffle is deactivated (yay!) but I just wanted to thank you for answering her question honestly.  I've gone back to the very beginning of these threads to read all questions and answers.  I honestly don't always know what to even ask.  (How DO you ask someone if their farts stink???)  When a doctor told me that, I almost laughed out loud and said, "You mean my farts will no longer smell like Chanel No. 5?"  Sheesh.  I was also kind of worried about the legend that DS will have me looking for a toilet 15-20 times a day.  I was calculating how long it will take me to save up for a hemmorhoidectomy.  Now I think I have some straight poop (pun intended, sorry.)

I will go to the beginning of each forum's threads and try to read all the way through so I don't ask repetitive questions.  Thanks for all your help.

I'm 5 months out from my DS, and have lost 112.2 pounds, down from 405 post-op.  This is the first time in a decade that I've weighed UNDER 300 lbs.

Here's what I've experienced:

More frequent, looser BMs.   It is NOT true that DSer's have uncontrollable BM's and have to wear Depends.  I did, but just until I became attuned to my new body functions.  Getting in enough water, taking your calcium and probiotics help in this area.

Gas- IF you eat a lot of white flour and simple carbs, you will have a lot of gas, and maybe diarrhea.  A lot of fat can also give you looser and foul-smelling BMs

Vomiting- Only if you eat too fast or get too full.

*********HERE"S WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY***********
Deficiencies- Possible, but only if you are not proactive in knowing how your labs are trending, and making sure you are getting enough dosages of vitamins to counter the extra malabsorption that is the hallmark of the DS.

Counting Calories - NEVER AGAIN!  What you do count are Protein grams (75-100g daily) Carb Grams (under 50 g during losing phase)  and Fluid intake (64 oz. daily) HOWEVER, you will still absorb 100 percent of  the sugar you eat, but NO DUMPING!  If you want to have a piece of cake or other sweet treat once in a while, you can, without becoming violently ill.

Weight Regain - You will have the surgery with the BEST numbers for KEEPING the weight off.
Again, simple carbs( sugars and white flour) can and will make you regain weight.

I have never had the lap band, but it strikes me as a temporary fix type of surgery.

Please go to www.dsfacts.com  and www.duodenalswitch.com  for more information on the new "platinum" standard of weight loss surgeries!

www.dsfacts.com Is the way to go, I been reading a lot into DS also, and really thinking about getting a ds revision. But there is one thing to know all WLS can fail, if the person is not ready to change is whole life. I know I failed and now I'm trying to move forward one step at a time.

Good luck
