My brother died a year and a half after weight loss surgery.  My brother weighted about 400 pounds.  And had a lot of health problems related to weight.   Mybrother weight surgery was a success so we thought until.  He started gaining weight again.   He  balloon up to almost 550 pounds.  I,m still not sure how he weighed.  I,m just guessing.  But, A year after surgery he gained all his weight back and more.
His heart finally gave out on him at 42 years of age.

I learn so much about gastric-by-pass surgery.   I know the risk involve and no lots of people who died.  With surgical related problem.  The doctors always blame the deaths on the patients health problems and not the surgery.  Because they think the surgery works.

How many people you have you known who died from gasteric-by-pass surgery?

How long ago for those two people??  I am hoping they have come a long way in avoiding leaks.

Oh probably eight to nine years ago.  I didn't have the RNY so it is rare that these happen.  My surgeon has done over 5000 MGBs..

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Wow sorry to hear about that.  I am happy to say I know 3-4 people who had the surgery and all are doing just great!  What caused your brother to have such a drastic regain ?  Was he non compliant with the diet?  You have to make a lifestyle change.  Sorry for your loss!

Exactly because of what happened to your brother, gaining the weight I mean, you should check out the duodenal switch weight loss surgery. Lot less chance of a big regain. Better eating. No dumping, Pyloric valve in working order. Please hop over to the DS forum and read up on it. Also, read www.dsfacts.com and www.duodenalswitch.com. You owe it to yourself to know about all the surgeries so that you can make an informed decision. I wish you well.

I, also, had a regain after RnY and that is why I now have a revision to a DS, and couldn't be happier. If you want to avoid the chance of a revision, do the DS first.

Did your insurance cover your ds revision I had the lap gastric done 7/2002. at my heighest I weighed 260, my lowest was 150, I got pregnant and gained 30 pounds. I lost about 20 or so...now 3 yrs after my son's birth Im at 197...thats 7 pounds over what I weighed at 9 months pregnant. and trying to look into having a revision. How was your journey towards a revision? I feel so bad that I have let myself down again. I have TriWest and located in Tacoma WA near Ft Lewis. Dr. Dewitt (a civilan dr) did my surgery in Alabama a couple of years before I got married and moved to CO, now we're in Washington (husband is active duty Army) I would like to have a revision...I want to find a local dr here and also see if my insurance will cover it. Any ideas anyone?

Thank you !!!! For the infomation.  I will make an informed decision.   It is just a scary the thought.  That almost everybody who has the surgery will gain some of the weight back.  Even the doctor know this.  So how can say with a straight face that this consider a successful procedure.  If it a fact that most people will gain it back with two years.    They might as well be honest an say it a short term weight loss.  Because, It,s all Fail Weight Loss Surgery.   If it isn,t preminent.

Hello, my name is Benita and I have lost and gained weight so many times. I have lost 100Lbs before but I can never seem to keep it off. I to WANTED the WLS surgery, that was until I googled and found out about all the deaths that doctors don't report. I am so sorry for your loss and I know personaly how your brother felt. I even spoke to some one who survived and yet had complications from the surgery and almost died, yet she said,"I'm skinny and would do it again....." I have changed my mind and want to start a blog for OBESE people who want to get healthy without surgery. I am in this fight for life, but I don't wanna loose my life. God bless you and I will continue to pray for you and your family......

All right Doris,  this is the truth, you or anyone else who gets the duodenal switch weight loss surgery will gain far less than a surgery like the RnY or even the lapband is not a very good choice. Please come over to the DS forum and stick around and read why everyone there is so happy. Better long term results with the DS, no dumping, not a while lot of regain, maybe 20 pounds generally. You know, any surgery is not without some degree of risk, right? But with the DS, less risk, less complication. It is now considered the platinum of all weight loss surgeries.  Check www.dsfacts.com and www.duodenalswitch.com. Check out the "regrets" board and see so many who have had the gastric bypass and the lapband looking for a revision because their first surgery of choice was the wrong choice. We do have people on the DS forum who are over 5 years out and still maintaining their lost weight. I hope to see you on the DS board very soon Doris.
