I had lost  196 lbs  since my surgery 18 months ago.
However, since April i have gained 7 lbs so i am a little freaked out.
I need to change something up cuz this is going the wrong way.
I was reading on this website  " the honeymoon period is over between 12-18 months and then you dont loose weight any more"
Is this true? is it normal to only loose weight for 12-18 months.  after surgery?

Hello, you are not alone.  I had surgery a month before you and I feel the same way.  I lost over 100 and gained some back.  My NUT said that its not over but that we have to change our behaviors.  Go back to the basics, protein first, fruits and veggies then carbs; don't forget your water.  Most importantly it is the mind that has to change, change the way you think about food.  I am still working on it and hope to break this stall soon, but I have seen people loose well after 2 years so there is always hope.  Hang in there.

Hello,

I just wanted to tell you....you can lose the weight and keep it off.  I am 8 years out!  I help people everyday lose their weight and maintain it!  You need to go back to basics.....Create healthy eating and exercise habits.....

Do you eat your protein first?
Do you drink with your meal?
Are you getting a minimum of 60 grams of protein a day?
Do you drink a minimum of 64 oz. of water a day?
Do you exercise?
Do you go to support group?
I have notice that many people are addicted to carbs and many people are grazers.  Both of these can make you gain weight.  The further out you get the more you can eat.  Perhaps you need to write down what you are putting in your mouth...sometimes we are eating more than we think we are.  Whatever you put in your mouth you have to work off.....It took me 40 years to figure that one out!  (smile)

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!! IF I CAN ANYONE CAN!!!! I STARTED AT 400 LBS.

I would like to help you!  It is true if you don't take control of it now....the 7 lbs could multiple to much more!  I have seen it many times!

Come on take the bull by the horns and DO IT!

If you would like you can go to my blog  www.gingerrock.blogspot.com or my website www.gingerrock.com

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Much love,

Ginger

Ginger,

You have opened up my eyes to what my real problem is.

I had WLS two years ago, lost 45 lbs (from 245 to 200) and i have been very unhappy and subconciously wondering why the weight has not come off.

Somehow I got the notion that if I had the surgery I could eat what I wanted to since I couldn't eat that much.  Somehow I ignored the advice I received earlier on  - the protein, the vitamins, the water, eliminating empty high carbs, exercising.  Aside from ignoring all of this, I realize that although i can't eat that much at a time, I am a grazer -- i eat all day long.  I actually cried when I saw this post -- over the past couple months I had been "googling" "still fat after WLS"  -- thinking that my surgery may not have been done properly or something.

I realize now that I've wasted 2 years thinking that the surgery alone would do it --after all I lost 45 lbs.  I thought the surgery would eliminate the dieting -- after all, i thought, that was the reason I got the surgery -- please get the word out -- i've seen your website it's wonderful -- some of us are thickheaded and simply didn't or don't get it -- WLS is just another tool -- we will always have to concerned with what we put in our bodies, especially the restrictions.  can't believe how naive I've been.  Drying my tears now, but realize that this food addiction is serious and I need a lot of help to get through it.  I should have stayed with the support boards -- my last post was 5 days after surgery -- didn't get the support that I needed, because I didn't get that I needed the support and wisdom of those who went before me.

thanks again Ginger to you and those like you, who encourage and breathe life into us.

I don't know how our local group and our surgeon's clinic rates up with everyone else, but there is SO MUCH EMPHASIS placed on your brain here! "It's not brain surgery, it's stomach surgery." AND IT IS!!!! It would be great if we could have both, but c'mon, we're getting a spectacular tool here, and we should follow everything by the rules! They are the professionals, there are hundreds if not thousands of people telling you what it's going to be like; before, during and after, and still people push the envelope, time and time again.

FACE IT! We have all decided to have a WLS because we want someone else to be in charge (in some way or another, right?) because we have FAILED to be able to maintain a normal or average weight!!

We NEED someone to tell us what to do and how to do it!! We wouldn't shell out the cash if we had any other choice! I don't physically go to the meetings every week that we have at our clinic but I'm online EVERY day. And every day that my clothes fit looser, every day that I can do something new that I couldn't before, every day that I can buy new smaller clothes, every day that I can feel GOOD about myself, REALLY GOOD, is a success and I don't take one damn minute for granted!

I am sure there are people who have the misfortune for the surgery to cause complications or even to not work...but WE HAVE TO WORK at it! It has to be treated like a JOB. If you are a diabetic, you know how you feel if you go off your plan, if you forget to medicate, etc. This is no different! We all have different issues that make us want to eat--FIGURE IT OUT and come up with a plan B to fight those urges! You've seen here many a time that people cheat the system a little here and there and before you know it, their scales are heading in the wrong direction!

If you need to have a one on one with the Psych or the NUT or this forum or WHOMEVER you've got for your 'rock'. There are SO MANY supportive people here on this site, it is unbelievable! Stick with it, LIVE IT, BREATHE IT, SUPPORT YOURSELF, and realize the different path your life can take! And it WILL take it!

We all need luck, support, most of all, I believe is optimistic self-talk! I cannot imagine going back to where I was (granted I'm only 7 weeks out--BUT I have had many years of thinness in my prior life) and NO MATTER what it takes, I will never be there again. Take the years of advice this great site has from all these wonderful people who you'll probably never meet, see the Dr and start to live again!!!!!
