From the begging I always stayed away form starches and tried to get my carbs from vegetables and then some fruits (low sugar - low glycemic index). Carbs were always "devil" for me. Even when we were cleared to eat some potatoes, pasta, bread, etc, I stayed away from them .Still do. They make me hungry. All the time. Once I start on them I can not stop myself. And it feels like I do not get any restriction, even when I eat meat, as if my body is trying to get as much carbs as it can.
However - when I stay away from the carbs - the restriction and feeling full comes. (and goes sometimes - but not often) I see people eating oatmeal (with protein - but still..) and then they complain that they do not lose weight. They eat fruits I would not touch without high fat addition (to minimize the sugar effect), bake brownies, (WLS friendly - but...) etc, and end up in a stall. Overall - I think I am /was eating more calories that they are - and I am at goal - and they are not... So maybe - calories coming from different foods affect us differently?
Maybe some of us can not handle even the complex starches? maybe we need to stay away from them forever? Not sure.
My pouch is OK (I hope) as long as i do not eat high carbs or sugar stuff...
maybe now - you are on a right path?
i read your journey and I feel bad for you that you did not have enough support from people who should have help you. It looks like - you figured out for yourself what to do and you are getting the results.
Note: You may try to make sure you are getting at least 800 cal. Below that body gets into a starvation mode and slows down breakout of fat tissue. My weight loss was the best when I was at 1000 cal - and alternated the cal every day - one day 800 - the next 1200, etc. So the system does not know what the heck is going on, and on days with 800 cal - knows that the next day or later - will get more - so it releases the fat. having a routine that you do similar every day - allows the body to get used to it - and it become more efficient in burning ... and storing...

Daisy - i am here for you. As many other people.
FYI: when there was a time that i lost control of my carbs and I was eating and eating and trying this and trying that and I stopped losing.... I went on 5DPT... it was hard - very hard - but it worked.. i got carb free.. Now I mostly just look. at the bread they serve with dinner...
FYI: I am not sure of your health and issues - but I think that I also have a case of "systematic candida." (google that if you want) and that when i eat carbs - the candida gets stronger and the toxins made me crave carbs...
Over last year I took diflucan. Once I noticed that I crave sugar more than usually and it is not ":this time of a month" and almost nothing seams to help - I take 2 dosages (3 days apart) and i am back in control. The medication can be prescribed by doc, but it may be hard on a liver. I do not recommend you take it - but just so you know I try to deal with my sugar craving. This also controls any yeast infections, skin yeast infections, etc. (red rush under the breast, in skin folds, etc).
It may be worth the time for you to research that. I took probably 8 double dosages over 14 months. There are natural remedies for yeast - but I would have to be very regular with that and with all what is- was going on in my life - 2 pills every 1-2 months was all I could do. In the future - I will try to control that naturally. (probiotics, some other herbs, make sure I do not use antibiotics, etc)
I also take probiotis daily (3 x recommended dosages) to rebuild the flora in my gut that has been destroyed by antibiotics (over the years and surgeries).

I had similar problems like you - I lost over 100 lbs when I had the surgery...couldn't lose that last 40 lbs., then I gained 40....I was just disgusted with myself. I went to the surgeon and he said everything was fine, I should be happy with my success, but to eat right...3 meals a day and NO SNACKING...I was starved constantly and couldn't figure out how to get right, then I found the 5 day pouch test...honest to GOD it saved me...go to http://www.5daypouchtest.com and start on it immediately. Now I have to force myself to eat. Remember 30 / 30 rule - so easy now. You will be amazed. Keep me posted on your success. I am new at this...granted, but have lost 7 lbs. in a week and feel so much better and hunger under control at last.
Hope this helps you like it's working for me!
Take care, Bonnie
