Just One Big Mess
Had my surgery in 2004. Never reached goal (barely lost 100 pounds). Gained all but 20 back since. Pretty sure I'm feeling the pain of adhesions, and I have an appt on Tuesday to see a new doctor, because I'm afraid and ashamed to see my old one. I felt like he gave up on me when I came back with my first 10 pound gain.
That, plus I'm about to leave my husband, who I'm convinced is either too stupid or too depressed to care about me as his wife, friend or roommate.
So, here's the real problem for me right now. When I had the RNY it was through Healthnet, which we no longer have. We now have Humana PPO, and I'm pretty sure they don't do gastric (and I'm thinking my husband's employer made sure of that, too). What are the chances of me getting back in under the cir****tances? Does Humana do this - ever? Should I really go for a DNS instead of an RNY if given the opportunity?
Thanks for any input on this. Also, with us separately (my move), my hope is that I can get my revision - Ds- Whatever done in California instead of here. Being from Santa Rosa, it would make mee feel better knowing the doctors actually gave a dam.

I have Humana and they approved my rny 2 1/2 years ago. It depends on each individual contract. Our employer also offered United Health Plan but the contract did not cover bariatric surgery. I actually weigh more now than when I had my surgery. I find it is very shameful to fail at weight loss surgery. I really understand and my heart goes out to you. I also don't have a doctor. I am too ashamed to find one. Good luck, you are not alone. Daisy I went an set up an appt with my old Doctor yesterday. I understand how you feel also, darlin! My fear right now is that bariatric surgery is so advertised anymore that insurance companies are not doing what they used to anymore I was Healthnet/United Health/Cobra in 2004, and it was pretty easy to get approved, now I'm hearing the opposite.
So, if Humana says no, then I'm just out of luck on this one. My mother-in-law got the DS a year before me, and she said that's what I should have went for. Boy, I hate when she's right! LOL

Have you looked into a revision to the duodenal switch? Go over to the DS forum and either post a question asking about revisions, or do a search. Many successful DSers used to have RNY's and have been revised to a duodenal switch. You can read about the DS at www.dsfacts.com

Hi Nancy,
That's what I'm looking for a revision to DS,but I'm not sure if insurance is going to go for it. So I'm hoping that by the time the doctor documents the adhesions, possible gall bladder issues, my knees (they hurt more now than before), and my back, that the insurance company will say yes.
In the meantime, I'm going to put all my hopes on the appeal letter, because I'm pretty sure they won't approve it right off the bat!
