I've lost probably 39-40 lbs since Oct 08 and havent lost any since. I've tried going back to the basic's liquids and nothing. now im scheduled to have some test done to see if my metabolism is slow 2morrow. My Surgeon says this is not normal with the surgery i had. Ive been so depressed about this because i feel i went through all of this just too loose 40 lbs. yes im happy about the 40 lbs but at least if i lost another 20-30 lbs my fear of gaining the weight back wouldn't be soo bad. I feel just like i had before i had the surgery, you know you try evevrything and nothing is working. Everybody said oh u stall sometimes, ut for 6  mths/???  I DONT KNOW WAT ELSE TO THINK OR DO... What really can my surgoen do??? Tell there some kind of hope for me... I only had about 80lbs to loose to begin with and im only half way there..Is this real, has anybody experience this??? please guys give me hope...oh and i do excerise, aerobics and walking at 4x a week, sometimes more. so its def not excersising..  help me

Hi,

I can feel your frustration.  Don't give up yet.  I know it is hard to stay away from the scales and not spazz out when nothing happens.  I wish there was never a plateau.  It appears you are on a very stubborn one.

One suggestion is to find some fun things to do.  Activities that will give your mind some rest and let your body recoop.  You seem to be exercising so much your body doesn't have time to rest.  Don't give it up.  Just space it out a little bit.  Eat healthy and enjoy life.  Then when you are relaxed and your mind and body have rested a bit, see how it affects your weight loss.  Stress has very strong affects on the body.

Just some ideas.  Keep in touch.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Hi, your story is the very same as mine. I had the RNY 5 months ago & since then I have GAINED 22 pounds. I"m angry & frustrated & just so HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. I never dump & I have had no success with a diet plan. They tell us that surgery is a tool & one must use it to loose the fat..... well I feel that I have a screw driver instead of a hammer & how in Heaven's name can I use a useless tool? Please do keep me in the loop if you find any answers. thanks

Hey I feel for you. I'm in a stalled weight loss here too. Mine stopped three months after my RNY and I've fought to get it going again with no luck. Please share the information on what test your surgeon does to test the metabolism level.  I lost 82 lbs... but now continue a fight to keep a 5-7 lb weight gain at bay. Please post more about what your metabolism test reveals. Thanks.

I WENT THROUGH A 5 WEEK STALL DURING MY 6 MONTH., UGH!  SO I WENT ONLINE AND RESEARCHED STALL (DIET PLATEAU) THE ADVISE IT GAVE WAS TO  FIRST MAKE SURE THAT I WAS NOT LOSING INCHES, BECAUSE IF I WERE LOSING INCHES TECHNICALLY IS NOT A STALL.  NEXT IT SAID CHANGE THE FOODS AND ACTIVITES THAT I NORMALLY DO SO I DID A COMPLETE SHAKE UP.  I ALSO ADDED KA****O MY DIET FOR REGULARITY AND MAKE SURE I GET THE WATER IN.

GOOD, GOOD LUCK I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL BECAUSE IT DROVE ME INSANE!

cut out ALL simple carbs and you MUST be excersizing and also that 64 oz of water if your not drinking it you will not really loose the weight. I've struggled for the 74 pounds i've lost in 17 months post op and i excersize 5x a week at the gym WITH a personal trainer :( i feel you sweetie.

Hi, I had RNY five months ago on dec 2,08. I have since GAINED 22 pounds......... I too dont know what went wrong. I was told that my pouch is a large one as I too had only 80 pounds to loose....... perhaps your doctor too left you with a large pouch........... I feel sad to have blown away all that I had worked for & I know that there must be a way OUT of this mess............. If you find something do keep me posted............ thanks.

I myself stopped losing steadily after around 6 months, some up and downs after, but I got myself into a funk where I said 'what's the point? I've still got so far to go' and I managed to get into bad habits and gain half of what I'd lost.

39-40 lbs is still a huge accomplishment, but I suspect you'll lose more. If your body is rebelling, my advice is to change it up -- someone else replied the same thing... just if you're doing walking for exercise, try yoga. If you're doing 3 meals a day, try 5 smaller ones of different foods. Just try and shock your body into responding differently.

Is it possible you're actually eating too LITTLE? I've heard rumors that that can make your metabolism grind to a halt...

ok took the cardio coach ( which is the test that test your metabolism) oh the results was that a 5 is normal i was a 5in half which is considered better than normal. so my metabolism is up to par.. So i met with the physical fitness lady and she said i needed to add strength training in my work outs. Cardio is good but i need to add strenght traing twice a week. So she gave me a program. Also she wanted me to eat food more food not just supplements.
she stated when u add strength training that pumps up your metabolism, then that helps u burn fat and build muscle.  So the first week  i thought i ate too much, i did loose 2lbs, the second week i lost 1lb, 3rd week i was under a lot of pressure and didnt really eat i gained 2lbs. So i do believ the strength training is helping because i could def see the inches.. So i've got to keep focused and eat more and keep up the excersing in that form of fashion. Cardio has been a habit but the strength training is something i bellieve is gonna make or break me. Actually i want to try the strength training at least 3times a week. But i feel good about it. They told me the window of opportunity is 18months and i belive i have 10 months left to go. So i havent given up. But i do recall them saying cardio n strength training is gonna help a lot.... Good luck guys, let me know what u think.  I hope this helps somebody... lots of water of course and try o grt the 80gms of protein in.  god bless
