I'm scheduled for lap band April 30th.... (Had RNY in 1993)

I went today to try and find a protein drink...I went to GNC and found a chocolate carmel "Whey" product... ( I think that's how its spelled)   I thought I was going to throw up  ... I tried it with milk, water, hot, cold, in a blender.... It's so gross.

Can you please give me some recommendations as to a good protein shake??

I did the Carnation Breakfast shakes with my original bypass and have not been able to drink them since.

Thanks everyone..

Unjury is a good whey.  It is a very fine powder and mixes well.  They have five flavors, even unflavored.  But again, it is personal preference.  Here is the link.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

I feel your disgust!  I have been drinking the ISO Pure from the Vitamin Shoppe.... I also know you can order it on line. I buy it by the case and it is pretty good! 40g of protein in 20 oz...... Tastes pretty good to me .... you may be different.

I also use the Nectar brand protein drinks. I bought Apple and a tropical one. I use a sweetener in it to help with the taste and LOTS of ICE!!!!   Don't bother with the blender.... but I bet if you had crushed ice you could pour it over that would be great!

I tried a yogurt today that had Whey in it.... ummmmm
You might like it but I could hardly get 4 oz down........
Think I won't buy that again....

My friend gave me some whey shake mixes in canisters... can't remember the name but ... bluck!  Even a sweetener doesn't help with that one... wish I could remember.... But I understand what you are dealing with.  Boost Glucose Controll isn't too bad.. little pricy but great for portability.... two servings in a little bottle. I added sugar free flavoring that I bought at WalMart in the coffee and tea isle and that helped make it a lot more "tasty".

I hope this hel

I use Chike (banana is my favorite) and the EAS AdvantEdge shakes and they are both pretty good.  I thought the IsoPure was OK before my surgery but post-op I couldn't get down more than a swallow without gagging.

Hi,
I've been drinking Nectar protein since I had the RNY in May, 2006.  I love (yes, really) the Lemon, the Strawberry Kiwi and the Cappucino.  The Cappucino is delicious!  You can go online and try samples.  I can't remember where I got them from but just do a search for whey protein samples.  I also tried the GNC powdered stuff but didn't like it as much as the Nectar.  You will get used to a certain taste and develop a liking for it.

Good luck.

Best,
Maria

Thanks everyone... I actually found a shake that I 'like'- (Not love)..  Its the one the Dr.'s office recommended...

Slim Fast High Protein-  already mixed can's.  Strawberry and choclate.

I leave them in the fridge but just before I'm ready to drink them.. i put the in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes and get them a little icy..  (Not bad)

This Thursday is my big day... Please say a prayer for me and I'm really nervous this time.  I guess because of my little 5 month old..

Thanks again for all the post.

Prayers are with you...have you tried adding a spoonful of instant coffee to the chocolate? I throw mine in the blender with ice and a tablespoon of instant coffee...helps for me because they are soooo sweet. Best of luck and get lots of rest.

I find those to be the least offensive as well.  Be sure it's Slim Fast HIGH PROTEIN though, not Slim Fast Optima.  IMHO, they're all pretty gross.
