RNY 2007 - No Weight loss after first three months???

I had RNY Surgery in Aug. of 2007.  I was 315 lbs at my surgery date.  I lost 83 lbs the first three months and no more. My projected goal weight was 145 lbs (I am 5'9" tall). Now at 1.5 years out from my surgery I have regained 7 lbs. My doctor wants me to journal my food intake and see a nutritionalist. I journaled my food/exercise/water intake and just could not lose any more weight. Is it time to consider if a revision is necessary??? Any suggestions?

It might be.  Follow up with your doctor and nutritionist and see what they say.  There are alot of suggestions I could make but I don't have alot to go on.  Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Thanks for the reply Daisy. I'm not sure how much was bypassed... good question to ask my surgeon. I know he told me that he stapled in a 15mm ring to keep the stoma at a prefixed size. I'm headed tot eh revision site to see that is a "normal" size??? Any ideas or suggested reads?

Have you looked into the duodenal switch?  Go over to the DS forum and either post a question asking about revisions, or do a search.  Many successful DSers used to have RNY's and have been revised to a duodenal switch.

You can read about the DS at www.dsfacts.com

I'm still in a mode trying to figure out if my RNY is actually broken...or is it my bad habits of not drinking enough water and injesting to many bad carbs. I have read a little about the DS procedure. I will check out the posts on the DS Forum. Thanks so much. Good Luck with your surgery ... I'll be rooting for you!!!

Im frustrated myself. I feel as though this surgery has failed me. I had RYN 2/1/2007 i was at 235 yr later i was at 200lb. I got so deseperate I went to a weight loss Dr. started taking diet pills, because my dr, who did my surgery prescribe me some phentermine. which i did lose some weight. I lost 30lb down to 170. plateu . back around christmas time I had gained 25 lb in 2months, but went back to diet pilss and lost the weight. but I havent lost any more. I cant seem to understand. I always said at the begining that this surgery has failed me. I excersise every day for 1 hrs. i was determine by june 17,2009 which is when I graduate from nursing school, I wanted to be at 150. and I cant get there .ive been working aout straight for 47 days in a row without missing any days off. eating vegtable and protein no salt , only  water. no bread , no carbs. fruit.
I was doinf the weigh****cher back in october ,and by christmas I gained 25 lb. why can I loose weight like normal people.

Your weight loss story is so inspirational. I wonder why the B-12 shots to help past a platuea. Had the doc checked your levels and you were low? I worry about the diet pills... a member of our support group did not make it through a diet pill regime and passed away suddenly. It scares me to think... we get the surgery and still no loss. I cant' thank you enough for sharing your story. I'd love to see a post of you and your boyfriend the night you went out in your weight goal dress!!!  I'm so happy for your success :-).

thanks for responding back to me. Well since Iam back at the weightloss Dr. I get a b12 shot 2x a week because it helps you loose inches. and I also enjy the energy that it provide, along with my hair growing fast aswell as nails .and not to mention ,my skin looks so healthy and vibrant.
its that now I have to depend on pills. is the scary thing to help me loose weight. I cant seem to loose it on my own, natural. this is frustrating to me.

Hey I had RNY one month after you and I had a similar situation.  My weight loss pretty much stopped after 3 months.  But then I got pregnant a couple months after that, so it totally screwed me up.  But I'll keep my daughter over weight loss any day.  Anyway, just wanted to tell you you're not alone.  In my opinion, it's time for us to work our tool.  If you are like me, you've probably started eating too much of the wrong things.  Good luck to you whatever you decide.
