Revision surgery anyone ??

I posted here several weeks back as I'm considering a lab band surgery over my RNY from 1993.

Although I did get a few response, I would still like more.

There is so many success and failure stories on this forum.  I'm one..   It's really scary to try and find what is the "Best " surgery to have for revision.

It's almost like a guessing game... You never really know if you will or not be successful till you have the surgery done. (Regardless of what type of what type it is)

Again......  If you have had a lapband over RNY/DS/ etc, I would really like to hear your story.

Thanks everyone,

Jeannie

Coach Roz,

Thanks for responding..... I have heard of the ROSE procedure... as a matter of fact, I was scheduled to have the procedure April of last year but found out a week before surgery that I was pregnant...

However... I'm glad I did not have it as I've heard the success rate w/ the ROSE is not as good as Lapband over RNY.

I know it's a very new procedure and just getting thourgh the appoval stages.. However, from my study, I've learned it's not the best procedure to have.  ..

Thanks again..

Hi Coach Roz .
Have you started the support group yet?  I had my revision in 03-05  . I also lost all my weight in the first 9 months, I lost 100 lbs, and I still had want ed to lose more, My fist WLS was back in the 70's. I gained all my weight plus some.  then to go thru this again was quite a big deal.
I have gained about 33 lbs, and I am now attending Weigh****chers, and I am having success.
I had to do something, the weight just kept slipping on, I must admit it was all my doing.  Sneck eating, and eating all the wrong things!!!

So I am now back on the lossing road, I just know I can not eat the same foods that put the weight back on.  I fix my husbands meals, and then I cook what I want.  I knew this is the way it should have been in the beginning but choose to ignore this fact.  I could eat what he eats IF I would just have a little, but I would have a little then in a while a little more and on and on.  So who was I fooling Ha
thanks,

Hi Coah Roz,

Would this be a virtual support group? Whether ROSE or lapband (haven't had revision surgery) I am seeking options to maintain and add to my weight loss.

Hi there, yes!  This is going to be a virtual support group and a source for people on Obesity Help to learn more about ROSE from people who had the procedure.  I also hope to provide some personal experience and information I use to stay on track.  Please come in!  Will you send me a "friend" invite on OH.com?

Best,
Coach Roz

Hi Becka, what second surgery did you have? How helpful do you find WW? I have struggled to maintain a 70 lb weight los with first surgery. Wish to lose 50 more. Glad for any response.

The 1st was stapling of stomach.  Like I said years ago.
The revision was the RNY  -  if you are fimilar with it, they make the stomach small with the stapling.  And it is my duty to take care of the "pouch" and eat the right stuff.  Which as I said I wasn't doing.

SOOO ... about WW's yes I do think it has been helping me alot.  It has got me back on track, of eating the right foods, lots of the complex carbs, and protein, and yes it is the points system, or momentum plan.  I am in my 4 th week, and as of last Tues I had lost  8.5 lbs. I was os desperate to do something, and I wasn't getting anywhere on my own.

I have control of my eating now, am always on guard. ha

I guess what I am learning at WW's I have the freedom or "choice" to choose the right foods to help me loss the lbs.
Before I was telling myself  - in my head - you can't eat this or that.  And in turn ended up eating all the wrong foods, sneaking!  only fooling myself. It is hard to explain how I feel, there are no restriction on me, it is totally up to me to eat the good healthy foods.

I like it.
I was so out of control, and now I am getting back on track

Becka. ..  You had your surgery 3-05??  like 2005 or march 5th?

Can you give more detail as to how much weight you lost w/ revision to RNY?

I'm having lapband over RNY April 30th...  My Dr. said AT BEST... I should lose 50 lbs... That is soo discouraging as I'm 100 lbs over weight..

It really sucks !   On top of that .... My Dr and his practice are  REAL  Aholes!

Just jerks about the insurance stuff and making sure they are getting ALL of their money upfront...   But... I dont want to prolong it now as I'm ready to get this over with.

Thanks,

Jeannie

I had my revision done in 2005 March 14th.
It was done by a Dr. H Buchwald. U of Mn University

My 1st one RNY was in the 70's

My revision was done as I said in 2005

I lost  around 100 lbs.  from the revision in 05'
I have gained about 30lbs back, my own fault,!!!
I have now joined WW's and have lost 10 lbs in one month.
I was so out of control of my eating, and this is really helping me.

Beings I had my stomach stapled in the past, it wouldn't have worked for me to have the lapband. Too much scar tissue.

Yes I had heard that you my not lose as much OR as fast with the lapband.

I guess I would try to see why he won't do the RNY on you!!  Are there risk factors?
Tell him that you want the RNY because of better results.
geez I hope things work out for you.
Oh have you tried a different surgeon??
keep in touch
good luck
