"When patients fail at WLS people assume the patient did something wrong.  I feel the surgeons could have chosen the wrong specifics for the patient."

Amen! to that!!

Ladies, Let me put my input here. I agree that people in general think if someone starts to gain back or doesn't lose as much as someone else it is because they didn't follow the rules or did something wrong. This is true in very few cases. I for one lost 148 lbs and gained back 40 lbs. I thought I stretched my pouch or something. I can eat more then I think I should be able to eat. My surgeon did some test and found out that I had developed bacteria overgrowth in my old stomach. This was before I started gaining. I started going to a gastrologist who had done research and was the one to discover that people who had RNY can develope Bacteria overgrowth in their old stomachs. I have been seeing him for over a year. Since I am looking into a revision and my original surgeon retired, both the new surgeon and the gastrologist have been working together with me. I was told at my last visit that they discovered that I started gaining when I started this treatment. They also said that everyone is different. Some of us have longer small intestines than others theirfore have more intestines to absorb calories and don't lose as much or do as well. Think about this ! Did your surgeon measure your intestines ? I don't think any really do for they are just doing research on this fact. I do know when I have my revision the surgeon is going to measure my intestines this time. Please correct me if you have been told anything different. I would love to hear. See you lighter. Joanne

I was under the empression that most sugeons do inform of the size our pouch will be. Mine told me at our first meeting that I would have a 1oz pouch. Plus my NUT told me that I would only be able to eat 1oz 3 times a day in the first few months and I would eventually go up to 2-4 oz. Im wondering if maybe you just didnt hear him say what size it would be, because at the time you were busy thinking about getting healthier.
