Unhappy with results
I had RNY 8/21/07 - I dropped the first 35 pounds right away, however, the remaining 25-30 pounds that I lost only came off at one pound per week. I hired a gym instructor in Dec 2007 and have been faithfully goin to the gym ever since. I didn't work with weights in the summer, I basically stuck to the treadmill for 45 minutes day 4-5 days a week, plus walking along the lakefront on many days for 5 miles or so. Food has never been the issue. I've pretty much stayed on track with the food (I live alone so its easy not have the junk in the house - which I really never did in the first place). For three months I lost nothing after my surgery (6 months out). My surgeon cant understand it. He said its probably due to my age (58 at the time) or the meds I was taking (Abilify and Lithium) but my md psychiatrist said the little doses I was on should never have caused a problem. He really didn't know - said it didn't happen to anybody else he did the surgery on. I quit Abilify and lost the one pound per week with strenuous exercise 4-5 times day. My only downfall was going out and drinking Jack Daniels once in awhile (on the rocks) - then I lost nothing. I was 261 and am now 204 1-1/2 years out. I rehired my trainer and am working 4-5 times a day with weights now plus some cardio but not seeing real progress. Any suggestions? I see my doctor next week and he will be so disappointed as I am up 1 or 2 pounds from 6 months ago. How can I get my metabolism tested? Or, did anybody have the same problem? I've had NO other issues with the surgery!
Are you eating any white carbs? Maybe portions are too large? I am stuck as well, and know your frustration. My problem, unlike yours, is hunger. I eat too often and don't exercise much, also unlike you. What I do right is low carb - nothing white, ever. At least that keeps me from gaining. I am terrible disappointed in my results - like you. Not what I'd hoped for.
Hi, I am so sorry to hear your experiencing the same result. I NEVER eat white carbs - I never felt really full but I have adhered to the ounces I am supposed to eat. A few times I overate and got really sick so its not that I can eat a lot because I cant. I even measure my food out most of the time......but I started getting really hungry also in the past few months.....had to quit snacking on pretzels and get the yogurt again. When asked, my surgeon said it was okay for me to take the following pills, Integra-Lean Irvingia 150 mg 2x day by Life Extension. I just started taking them 3 weeks ago and they do seem to help curb my appetite. They are vegetarian capsules.
No, not really - you really have to take several per day and I didn't want to spend all the money on them..........I am up and down the same 5-6 pounds but lost a size over the past year from weights......however i didn't go to the gym for one month, went on a cruise and really overdid it foer the first time since my surgery and now cant fit in a pair of jeans so back to being good! I still never eat pasta - EVER !! Good luck!
This is just adding my input which is NO help to your happy results.
I too am like you. I am just to the point of not weighing daily. It's just too disappointing . I had to stop coming to the site so much because reading about so many success stories makes me feel like a failure . Know that I do not intend to dampen anyones Glory.
I have stopped posting my updates and tracking my food intake on my page. I have increased my workouts and corrected some of my mishaps by keeping my eye on the hidden cabs; also, wearing out my knee caps praying for understanding and/or acceptance.
I try to stay focused on the positive results knowing I am very thankful for my 54 lb weight-loss and my blood pressure being normal now .

I am so sorry you have not had success. I wish there was a magic pill that would kick start your system. There is an alternative wls that is very successful. I don't normally suggest this because with alot of people, they have just gone off track with their eating and exercise routines. You sound like you are doing it right. Go to http://clos.net and read about it. It may be a solution for you.
