Hello Everyone,

As you all know....a bunch of us just went through our OH Support Group Leader training this week.    I was one of them.    I am going to start up a support group in Hurst and I was wondering you would be interested in joining and attending it and what day would be best for everyone.    If it is saturday or sunday the afternoons would be best for me.    I have decided to have it at the Starbucks near North East Mall.    What do you guys think and who would be interested in attending it.   I have named my support group " Lose It 4 Life" because I do plan on being a loser for the rest of my life.    Who wants to join in my group.   As a person 3+ yrs post op....you can NEVER ever get too much support !!!!

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Congrats!  It's a great program.  Can I make a suggestion?  If you can, find a place to have your meetings that are not set around food.  Use those venues for the social side of your group. This is just a suggestion.  Many groups meet at restaurants and I have attended many.  I found them more of a gab session and less supportive.  Others may think it's just fine. In my opinion, and that's all this is, having food as the center piece for support strikes me as being counter productive.  I know some folks will totally disagree with me.  To me, it would be like having an AA meeting at a bar.  Just a thought.  No flaming here. Huuugzzz

Thanks so much for the suggestion.    Although the Starbucks that I am having it at is a really large one with large table and chairs and sofas.     Trust me....if I can find someplace that doesn't charge a fee I will do it there.    Maybe some place will open up for us or someone in the group will live in a apartment with a community room.    My house is way too small and I have 5 inside dogs so that would never work to have it there.    Trust me....it just gripes me too to go to a support group at a Restaurant.    I don't want any of my meetings to be centered around food and I definately to 110% agree with you about that.    I am co leader of a SG breakfast already and I just hate for people to feel that they have to spend money in order to attend a SG.    Thanks so much for your input.   I love hearing suggestions of experienced support group leaders.

Hi,

Check out your local library.  Sometimes they have rooms in theback or maybe someone will be able to secure a conference room or maybe your local hospital will let you use one of theirs.  Just brainstorming a little.

Thanks for that suggestion.   I already have my groups posted as meeting at Starbucks.....but if we get too large....I will definately check out Barnes and Nobel...we do have one in our area.   Thanks for the suggestion.
