Has this ever happened to anyone. Just thought I would check since this is my surgery of choice.

Do you mean regaining back to your pre-surgery weight? No, haven't heard of that, but it is possible to have some regain, or lose more than you want. The statistics on the DS are the best compared to the band or RNY as far as losing excess weight, as well as maintaining that loss. While the intestinal bypass part can be adjusted to increase or decrease malabsorption, it is not very common, and I've only heard of a few.

I asked this a few weeks ago, maybe the responses I got will help with your question.

Just wondering?? Anyone regain all after DS?

I certainly haven't gained it all back-I started at 379, worked my tail off to get to 195 at my two year surgiversary.  I was there for about 24 hours, and then went to 204 where I stayed for a few months.  The all of the sudden in the fall I gained a bit, and now am sitting at 229 where I have been for a few months now.

I never did make it to my surgeon's goal of 150, nor did I make it to my goal of 180.  I am still dealing with this.

Anyway, I can't say I have heard of anyone gaining it all back after a DS.  I sure hope that doesn't happen!

My sister had the other problem.  She has lost to much.  They have put her thru all the test and can't figure out how to stop her losing weight.  The are talking revision now.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Well yes it can happen, i had a Lap DS in 03/03 and started at 287lbs , got down to 160lbs, then in 06 after i had my gallbladder removed i gained 10lbs, then i got pregnant and gained about 50lbs with that, now 6 yrs later i am at 230 again....i am a picky eater so nothing has changed in that dept, and i dont understand what happend??? I went back to see my DR and he has the gall to say, well you need to go on a 1500 calorie diet..blah blah blah...and i was like "dude, if i was successful at dieting, i would have never had the dang surgery!" I am debating the stomatyx (sp?) but i really hate surgery....  I am just really depressed and irritated... but yes..we too can have ours fail...or fail ours..

I'm confused, as I understand the stomaphyx is used if you had RNY, and therefor a stoma, to be fixed? Why would your surgeon not just make the sleeve smaller (the sleeve is what you have, if you have a DS) or adjust the bypass for more malabsorption?

Though I have heard of Dr. Feng here in California, I do not believe he does the DS. No one else has ever mentioned him as their surgeon to do the DS. Are you certain it is the DS you had or something else?, Fobi pouch rings a bell, but I could be wrong on that.

He does list the DS as one of his surgery types. I didn't think he did it either but he lists it.

Well remember Tali, many docs list the DS, but really don't do it; they just want to get you into their "clutches". I did call Dr. Feng's office when I was starting my search for a DS surgeon; I can't remember exactly what I was told, but it could be that he just does not revisions as I wanted.
