Lap Band over previous RNY

I had a RNY in 2001 and lost a total of 130 pounds - I had quite a few digestive problems in the begining and once I was finally able to hold things down I noted the restriction I thought I would have was not much... In 2005 my dad died and I was started on an antidepressant --- then I had terrible menses problems and was tried on an array of birth control pills ---- I began gaining weight and slowly but surely I gained back 90+ pounds. I now can't even walk up 5 stairs without being SOB, I have back, knee and hip pain, I get chest palpitations and find that the daily exercise regimen I once did I am no longer physically able to....

I have completed a 1 month dietary diary and fell below the 1,000 calories I am supposed to consume and yet still gaining???

How is this possible???

I am looking into a revision surgery and hoping to get that jump start again... Any words of wisdom would be appreciated!

Have they checked your stoma to see if it is stretched? That is the problem I have. I feel little restriction and can eat anything. I do feel your pain. Hang in there and just get everything checked out. I see a surgeon in February. Joanne

I am having trouble. I lost 70 pounds total. I could use to lose 50-60 pounds more. The effects of the surgery did not seem to last as long. I see on the boards people who have lost 130+. What are the differences. My situation I believe is called inadequate weight loss. Iam looking into what can be done to jump start the situation again. I think many of us have to have medical interventions and then can work to maintain it.

Hi,

Have you guys tried going back to the basics?  Or tried the 5 day pouch test?  www.5daypouchtest.com/ .  I'll be 3 years out in April and my weight flucutates up and down but EVERYtime I go back to the basics I am able to lose weight really fast and my pouch starts to feel like it did after I first had surgery.

Cut out sodas
Cut out sugar (go back sugar free)
Cut out the carbs
Eat protein/protein/protein
Take your vitamins (I take a centrum, B150 complex and zinc, magnesium and calcium supplement).
Start eating off of saucers again and eat smaller portions.
Try to workout for atleast 30min 3-5x per week.

When i'm hungry or think I am I drink hot green tea or peppermint tea and it soothes my stomach and I'm no longer hungry.

You might want to try James H's wagon plan also.  Alot of people have tried that and it works for them also.

Are you counting calories?  Alot of times when I get out of control I realize I'm eating too much fast food, too many carbs, i'm drinking too many fizzy drinks (even if they're diet) and I'm eating almost 2000 calories easy each day.

I've been able to eat less than 1000 again and i'm NOT hungry, I have energy and I don't experience the effects I was having before with my reactive hypoglycemia.  I dump really bad, still and my sugar would be so off and I've passed out from low blood sugar and go into "diabetic comas" after eating everything.

After I went back to the basics, it all went away, so it's kind of worth it to me.  I still don't have as much energy as I'd like but it's better than the none I had when I was eating horribly.

Goodluck!!

I did try the pouch test and failed. I have completed a one month diet diary and was well within my calories? I think alot has to do with medication changes, hypothyroidism and I had an UGI and found my pouch was dilated....

It is just so frustrating and I feel like a failure - I have NO energy - and am just so depressed...

I had a TAH 12/4 and no am dealing with the depression of that at the age of 37 tooooo...

I go to see a nutritionist tomorrow.

Thanks for your thoughts!
