I feel like I am failing ALREADY

I had surgery on the 19th of this month and have only lost 14lbs so far. I am eating 4oz of food per meal and am intaking about 600 calories a day. Everyone else I have spoke w/ is barely eating 2 oz and they are months out. I am starting to feel that this is going to fail like everything else I have tried. I mean if it wasn’t going to fail then why does it seem like my experience is so different from everyone else’s..

I’m sorry to sound all negative it’s just how i’m feeling

I'm no expert at all of this, but I feel comfortable sharing my opinions with you.  I have lost 156lbs in the last 15 months.  So I've done a few things right...and a few things wrong.

First of all...You have to remember that everyone is different.   You are not a failure as long as you are eating the amounts your dr. is telling you to eat.  At first there is a lot of head hunger that goes on...well to be honest...it has been 15 months of head hunger for me.  I love to eat..that didn't change with getting my stomach cut in half.  You have to get over that as best as you can.  You have to just eat a little and when you feel full stop.  Are you full after 2 oz. or does it take 4oz. to fill you up?  If it takes 4 oz.  just make sure it is protein and don't waist it on carbs.  We need at least 60-90 of proteins so if you are getting it then great.  Are you drinking your water in between?  Your body thinks you are starving it so it will go into reserve...give it a few days and you will drop 5lbs.  That is what would happen to me...I would stop losing then....omg would drop 5lbs.  Just hang in there.  Most important is to only eat what your dr. tells you to eat this stage of the game.  You don't want to eat the hard stuff just yet.  There is plenty of time for eating bites of what you crave later on.

Take it one meal at a time...and remember you can WIN this time!!!!  You will WIN this one.

I can eat 4 oz and not be full but I stop there because I know that my mind is playing tricks on me.

When you are only a few weeks out, you are eating slider foods, and don't get full like you will on full proteins. Sliders are things that do just that- slide through the stomach before meal time is up, making room for more. It's a good time to teach yourself restraint (I sometimes lose the head hunger battle) but there will be times in the future when you will eat 3 oz of meat and put your fork down. I know it seems like for ever now, but give yourself another month. People eat different foods at the beginning, so don't compare yourself!

I had surgery on the 19th also.  I have lost about the same as you, and I can easily eat more than 4 ounces.

A pound a day is NOT failure!  Can't think of any other weight loss program that has brought such tremendous success.

Best wishes for continued success.

Gurl,  You must have the blues or something!!!  How on earth could you think a lb a day is failure???  Darlin' it won't stay a lb a day unless something is bad wrong with you.  Reasonable weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week and anything over that is a big bonus or it could even be unhealthy.

You surely didn't expect to be halfway to goal in 2 weeks did you?  Now give it up, and start living.  Go for a walk, see some scenery.  It is too early for you to do any other kind of exercise, but you must be seriously depressed if you honestly believe that you are a failure.  Deal with the depression because you will be skinny and depressed if you don't.  I also believe that those of us who eat around our surgery are depressed and just don't deal with it.

Take care,
Corliss

I think everyone is misunderstanding what my post was about.

I am not upset about losing a pound a day...That is a wonderful blessing.

I was concerned about the fact that after I lost 19lbs (water weight) I stopped and also noticed that I was intaking 4 oz of food. I was comparing myself to others that are only eating about a tablespoon of food this early out and was feeling like I was failing again.

It's not about the weight that i have lost or the fact that it equaled out to a pound a day I was afraid that because I was eating more than others I was doing something wrong.

What your describing is NORMAL. Dont worry as we all have different amts we can eat at different times! Those that are "months out" from you are also eating much more dENSE food than you and you'll find that is harder to fit in when its time for you to eat that kind of food. You will NOT lose exactly like someone else. Put things in perspective. You are only eating 600 calories a day. Your body needs at least double that just to maintain and maybe more depending on your weight! Girl, you KNOW you are going to lose weight with your surgery. I just was searching the OH site and saw this forum. You need to get OUTTA HERE and back to your forum where you can get encouragement, advice and ask questions. Just dont COMPARE yourself to anyone else. I would be considered a slow loser myself and if I kept comparing to everyone else I would go nuts. What I know is this: I dont take in over 1000 calories a day. There is NO WAY that I'm not going to lose the weight. But it will be in MY bodys time. Take care and come visit on the VSG forum anytime! Connie~

I once heard a man much wiser than me say.. The only failure my dear, is in never trying. You took a step showing commitment that was a success in its own right. Never forget that... I wish the best for you, and if you stay the course you will be where you want in life.

Hi,

I am responding to you without reading other folks comments.  Now, take a slow deep breath, in... out...in...out.  Your body is in starvation mode.  You are not eating enough.  The surgery is taking care of alot of the calories you are having so in actuality, you are not getting 600.  Eat, hun.  See a nutritionist and learn how to eat normally and healthly. huuugzzzzzz

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.
