Good BAND gone BAD

Hi all, I had great success with my band initially and eventually succeeded in loosing more than 200 lbs and was at goal.  The last 30-50 pounds were lost in a very unhealthy way.  I puked all the time and ended up having emergency surgery to have my band removed Sept. 19, 2008.  I have regained from below 180 up to 220.  I am trying to decide whether to have a second band placed or have the gastric sleeve.  Sinc e weight loss was not my problem, puking was, I dont' think I need the malabsorption but I sure am scared of the sleeve.  Anyonne with similiar issues please reply.

If the same thing starts to happen with the again, then they will not be able to remove the sleeve as easily as the band.

I don't believe they can remove a sleeve.  Maybe modify it to a RNY or even Band it, but no such thing as removing it to my knowledge.

Thanks, Corliss

I think you might not understand a sleeve.  It is a permanent procedure.  There is nothing to "remove" to revise to the original surgery.

Ok... this is a late response to an old convo. I understand the sleeve procedure, but spoke wrong. I just meant that it wouldn't really be able to revise it (like she said it could be made into in RNY) if the vomiting started again. She was worried about the vomiting.

Sure she could.  After a sleeve she could revise to a malabsorptive procedure if need be.

The reason for the vomiting with a band is because with a band you have a stoma.  WIth a sleeve there is no stoma, just a small stomach.  That's why there isn't so much vomiting with a sleeve.  We don't really get stuck or the other things that happen with a band.  I suppose if I swallowed a golf ball size piece of food it would be stuck, but I can't swallow something that big anyway.

Wow... hostility from a person I don't even know.  I don't care how old the thread is, if the person still has the same problem and someone like you is giving out wrong information... twice, sure.. It should be discussed.

We are what we are.  I may have lost the weight but I still have the fat mentaility.  It is what it is.

I hope you have a better "rest" of the day and can begin caring about your "peers".  Is that more PC?
