I give up!

I have been trying since July to set up my revisions surgery from VBG.  I changed doctors, but, I had all my tests, then the "problems" began.  The hospital where I had the tests done, closed, couldn't get records.  Now, they want the surgerical report from my surgery done over 20 years ago.  I can't find the doctor, he was still in Houston when I started.  I can't remember the hospital where I had the surgery.....so, I will be 64 next month, maybe I'm to old to go ahead with this.  It is in my thoughts 24/7, maybe I can find some other way to lose at least 50 lbs which is only half what I need to lose.  I still can't eat much, vomit at least 2x a week, but I don't lose weight.  I take meds for my back and fibromyalgia so maybe that is why, I don't know........I just give up, thank you all for listening, take care and God bless.....

I am SOOOOOOO VERY SORRY that you have become so disheartened -- from what you've explained, you have so many reasons to be.  You been run around and put through so very much  ( too much in my opinion).  Please do not give up.  You have MANY years left with us and I want you to continue your Journey Toward Healthy living.  Please consult your Primary Physician and Nutritionist and explain EVERYTHING that has happened and explain that you wish to continue to lose the weight SAFELY.  I am sure that between the two of them, a Personal Nutrition Plan can and will be planned out that you can conform to.  Please continue to keep us posted.  You will remain in my thoughts.  Good Day.

First of all, thank you for caring.  We live out in the country and my Primary Physician is not one of the better ones I know, but, she is overworked so it is not her fault.  We are more than an hour from any large hospitals or doctors.  I will keep trying, at least, I think I will, I am so depressed and disappointed right now, I don't know what I will do.

Take care and God bless, Merry Christmas!

Jean

Hey Jean,

I saw your post and wanted to write you a quick note.  I work with a surgeon and we see many failed VBG patients.  Failures with the surgery are very very common due to procedure.  We have revised many VBG patients to either a sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass.

Don't give up your dream for a healthier and happier life.  I know both personally, I had band 6 years ago today, and professionally how much this means.

If I can answer any questions, please feel free..

Jean, who did your original surgery?  Was it Dr. Harlburg (sp?), I have a friend that used him also and I "think" she still is in contact with him and his staff when he was still working.  If it is let me know and I'll try to contact my friend.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you for your reply.

No, my doctor was Dr. Ira Kasper.  He's still listed in Houston but his number has been given to someone else and they don't know a new phone number for him, neither does Houston information.

My getting on in age and I'm just not as sure as I was when I started in July.

I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but I am having an RNY done next month and I'm 62. My sis in law also had a VGB done. Later found out that there is a high rate of failure. My sis in law was doing the same as you, vomiting all the time, no weight loss and regaining of weight. Turned out , after testing, the staple line had a break in it, and the band was placed too high up. She got a revision done without the medical records due to the nature of the problem. Good luck to you, there is help out there, just sometimes you have to do all of the research and leg work

hmm, I had an endoscope but he never told me what he found because I changed doctors after having all those tests done in tha***** bitty hospital that closed and a doctor who I had no confidence at all.  The age thing is bothering me, I keep watching that show Big Medicine on the discovery channel and they say how dangerous a revision is and how the pysch doctor has more to do with the weight lost, almost more than the surgery.  We live on the lake far away from everything so I wouldn't be close to the doctors in Houston,  I don't know if I could drive 4 hours every week.   I don't know, I'm so confused, and I look at my kids and 3 out of 4 have the same weight problem as I do and the daughter that just turned 40 is starting to gain weight, too I I just don't know what to do, but, thank you for caring enough to reply, it means a lot to me.  Good luck on your surgery next month, take care and God bless........Merry Christmas to you and yours!
