There may be hope!! "Cranky MD"
For those of us who are regaining (just like me) after 5 yrs out of the honeymoon phase, there may be hope. I recently touched base with the Bariatric Nurse Specialist (from the MD that did my RNY). She suggested free counseling with a Pshcy PhD student whose focus is weight loss. My 1st sesson was a "get to know you" last wk. I'm hopeful--she plans to do a 50min phone conversation with me every other week. (The emotional aspect of wt. loss failure). The other suggestion from the Bariatric Nurse Specialist is to come back to the meetings that I have avoided all of this time. She said that there are more people in this boat than I realized. Last suggestion she made, was to come back to any of the surgeons in that group (I told her about the cranky MD). They may do a check up as to why it failed and make some suggestions; say a prayer for me. I'll be sharing more soon. (She did apologize for the MD's attitude saying it should never have happened because I'm an adult; not a child). Roz :0)

I was feeling really low, and didn't even want to go back to the Psychologist that I originally went to before surgery. I was having other emotional problems, so I made an appointment in another town with a Psychiatrist that I accidentally found out does Bariatric Counseling also!! Just started the bariatric counseling last week, and he said, that I could be accountable to him during my visits. He started me with some small, achievable goals, (like a protein shake before the 3rd cup of coffee and exercise 2 days/week). He said we'll talk about the "ideal meal" later as we go on; he's a God send. There is a support group nearby that he suggested that I think about rejoining. He said that with the guest speakers, and the enthusiasm the honeymooners have, I may feel better about reconnecting, like you said. I told him, I'm not sure yet, but I may give it a try. At least, if nothing else, the honeymooners will know that surgery is a tool and not a cure-all, and you & I certainly know about that. Praying for your success, Leigh. Rozan
