PHENTERMINE

While reading some of the posts I noticed that some of you are on phentermine.  I have been talking to my doctor about this.  My general doctor said she wouldn't give those to me after surgery.  My surgeon is thinking about it.  I had my surgery 3 years ago and lost 123 lbs.  I have since gained back 60lbs.  I had a stomaphx Feb 26th 2008.  I lost 13 lbs the first week and then maybe another 5lbs but the other 5lbs keeps coming off and on.  I have a compulsive, obessive eating disorder and am having such a hard time.  I have taken phentermine in the past.  At some point it had quit working for me as far as losing weight but one thing it did do, was give me a little more control about snacking and choosing the right foods.  I was wondering how many of you are on phetermine now or any other diet aid?  My daughter said, I thought that is what you had the surgery for.  I told her that they operated on my stomach, not my head!

Phentermine is dangerous when taken for the long term. Have you thought about some kind of therapy to help you deal with the "compulsive, obsessive eating disorder"? Maybe that's a better bet than phentermine.   I hope everything works out for you Tammy

Yes I do see a therapist but it doesn't seem to be helping that much.  I suppose it takes time but in the meantime, I have gained back a few more pounds which really depresses me.  I am on antidepressants and am wondering if maybe there isn't a better one out there that might help with my obsessive compulsive behavor.  I am planning to see a phsychiatrist regarding my meds to see if I am on the right medication.  Right now, my general doctor prescribed the antidepressants.

I would definitely see a psychiatrist regarding your meds. Your PCP is not trained to deal with these kinds of problems. A psychiatrist will be able to get you on track a lot quicker and with the right meds. Since you are on antidepressants you may also want to make sure it won't interact with the phentermine before taking it. That's like being on speed, which may screw with the prescribed dose of antidepressant.

 Best Wishes,

The trick to get it to keep working is to take it on and off. Give yourself a week off each month, if it is OK with your Dr., to get it out of your system.  I don't take it now obviously, but my band surgeon prescribes it for me for the two weeks before my period. And at that I only take 10 mg once a day...right after lunch. It just seems to work well for me that way.
