Can you be considered a failure after 10 Months

First of all I'm new to this board, but I just need to know is it too early for me to start looking into a revision. Very soon after surgery I was telling my doctor that I can eat way more than anyone that I knew who had surgery. Not too far out I also tried sweets and found out that I did not dump. Needless to say I have struggled with that. Well after 10 months I've only lost 97 pounds, I know that is a lot compared to what I could have lost on my own. It's just hard to accept this as being the end when I still weigh 248. I eat and I can eat a lot without getting full and after I'm finished eating I'm hungry just a little while later. Do they even do any kind of fixes or revisions on someone who isn't even a year out and will insurance cover it. According to my doctor I haven't even loss 50 percent of my weight. I really feel like I was in no way prepared for surgery even after having to wait years to get it. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Don't give up yet. I had my rny done in 2005, lost 81 lbs in the 1st 9 months and haven't lost a pound since.  In fact, I gained about 27 lbs back since then. My only advice to you is to jumpstart your weight loss again, do the 5 day pouch test. IT WILL WORK!! Look it up online.

I stopped losing weight after 6 months,I didnt go back to my originaql surgeon as he was in a different country and the only revision he would do was a band over the Rny. I am now waiting for a revision ,and started seeing a new surgeon concerning my problems at 10 months,so am sure they will at least start investigating what the problem is ,like you I could eat a lot of food from early out,and have only lost 80 lbs ,I am now 15months out . Hope you get help Susie xx

Hi, I saw your profile and I was like WOW, you look good.  Did you have lapband?  I am in the begining process of starting from the begining and if and I hope when I get that approval letter I hope I do as good as you.   Can you give me some pointers of what you did to get all that weight off?  Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much.....I had the RNY.  I have been moving since I had surgery.  I walked at first and when I could do more I did.  Now I work out 7 days a week and I actually enjoy it.  So where I was doing the same thign pre op and hating every minute because there were no results.  I am now seeign them and I am able to do more.  Good luck to you I am sure as long as excercise is a part of your regimen you will do fine.

Youve lost 97lbs so far which is excellent - are you still losing?  Instead of looking to fix the physical side of the surgery it sounds like you need to focus on the mental side. The majority of RNY patients do NOT dump - if you tested the waters and found out you didnt now its up to you to stay away from the sugar. As for how much you can eat - you said you eat much more compared to others - what is your average meal volume?  As for finished eating and feeling hungry a little while later - are you stopping drinking 30 minutes before and after meals? Are you eating enough during your meal? Are you eating slowly and sticking to your meal time (i.e. 20 minutes)? Are you eating balanced - protein first, then veggies/fruit lastly carbs/starch? When you do eat carbs are you eating ONLY whole grain non-enriched/processed/refined carbs? Are you waiting too long between meals? There are so many factors that can go into why you are feeling hungry or wanting to eat again too soon. Have you spoken to your surgeon about your concerns? When is the last time you saw your NUT? If your NUT isnt giving you the help you need then find another - they should be able to teach you how you should be eating, when you should be eating and the types of foods to help with the hunger issue.  I would in no way consider you a failure... you said yourself you dont feel prepared but you can still educate yourself and use your tool to its full potential!
