Had an endescope last week and stomach large and also outlet big as well  I knew there was something wrong 6 weeks out from surgery as I could eat so much more than anyone else that had just had the RNY  Have lost only 66 lbs in 11 months was 298 to start .bmi 52.4 So these ops do fail ,mine failed from the beginning and I feel fed up as now everyone else is saying how much they have lost ,how they are down xxx amount of dress sizes ,I can still wear the same clothes and wish I was slimmer I have not lost a pound since I was 5 months out  Recently been having terrible nausea and weakness dont know whats wrong with me help ..... New surgeon has suggested a band around stomach and I dont fancy that at all  and he said that I would only lose another 14lbs after revision so whats the point of having another op for 14lbs ??? Fed up  Susie x

Susie,

I'm sorry to hear about your dismal results with your WLS.  I think you are right about the band.  You probably need something better.  You might want to consider a revision to either the Duodenal Switch (DS) or the distal RNY.  Both add a malabsorption factor to the weight loss.  I had the DS and would highly recommend it.  There are a number of failed RNY revisons on the DS board.  Why not check it out?

Good luck and I hope you can experience the results you had dreamed of.

Thank you for your reply Caroline I already have a distal rny ... so it makes me feel even more a failure ! I had thought about ds before the rny but was scared ,but now I know whats wrong am not sure if I should just go and have the outlet tightened or explore the ds once again  Regards Susie x

I also wanted to add that with the lapband you'll have to work the fills/unfills.  Some find this to be tedious and hate it.  Others love being able to adjust when you need it.  Depends on your level of patience. I know me, I have NO patience!! LOL!!

If you go with a lapband, you need to go with a more knowledgable doctor (and I hope I spelled that right!)  There are many on the Lapband board and off that have lost up to and over 100lbs in a year.  Thinking that the lapband will just cause a weightloss of 14lbs isn't right. Way too many people on the lapband board have lost so much weight.  Bottom line is the doctors/researchers/whomever get their information from a control group.  From people that actually have had the surgery and that's what you get on these forums although you have to be careful there are those that are misinformed.  I hope you find out about the nausea and weakness and are able to take care of it.

Hi S, I am so sorry that you heard this offputting news after surgery. The whole reason for the WLS is to make our tummies smaller, so we would feel satified with way less food....It is supposed to be our tool!   My heart goes out to you!  But you know something, you did lose an important 66 pounds...and I bet you are healthier for it. My goodness, when we have a mechanic look at our car, and he fails to completely fix it, we take it back and have him finish the job. Now Doc.s  can mess with our innards, and if he/she doesnt' completely do the procedure the correct way....why they can charge us for another whole operation.  And sometimes we DON'T want to go under the knife again.   UGH.... Listen, know you know the truth about your tummy,.... do a LOT of reseach on this board, and on the RnY board and find out as much as you can with your specific cir****tances.    Don't let this discourage you too much....Keep us all posted on your progress.  You can still lose weight....just will have to adjust to your cir****tances. Here's a hug  (((((((((((((((Susie)))))))))))))))))))

i' m having the same problem.  last week i cried to my dr. and said something is wrong. its been 9 months and i only lost 35 bl. i said i hungry all the time and i never get full. but mental because i had the surgery, i no to eat small portion. i had a food diary for the past 9 months . he said i wasn't eating enough.  but he 's going to take exrays next month to see if i stretch my stomach  or ,maybe he didn't reduce it enough . he said if my stomach is bigger , he will give me the stomaphyx . its a non incisson procedure done with a device that enter threw your mouth to reduce your stomach . ask your dr. about it and research the stomaphyx on here. it for people who had the gastric bye , and still needs to loose more weight

Thank you all for your replies its nice to know your not alone I hope we can all resolve our issues and eventually be the women we have dreamed of being , yes I am much healthier having lost my 66 lbs ,I can walk much better than I used to ,BUT speaking for myself only  I had visions of myself being a svelte model ....lol , ok I knew I would NEVER get there ... BUT you know I wanted to be a "normal" weight,  which for me would have been maybe 168 - 170 lbs ... I hope that I can reach that ONE day ,it just seems as you get older its like "well whats the point at this age " kind of mindset ,it took me ages to recover from my RNY and I am not looking forward to having anothger op .. but who knows !!!  upwards and onwards I guess ... i no  how you feel. its been 8 month for me. i weighed 240 and went to 198 . on oct .16  i went to my dr. and i gained 7 lb.  and i cried so much to him. i' ve been  working out 5 days a week. eating 3 small meals a days. i stay hungry but i' ve been snacking on veggie.  so he mention he may have to check to see if i stretch my stomach . but in the mean time he gave me a script for phentermine diet pills 37.5. with in the first week i went from 205 to 195. and now i m weighing 188. but what gets me, is why did he have to give me diet pills to jump start my weight loss . the thing i do worry about is after taking the diet pills i m afraid of double my weight back. im thinking he didnt make my stomach small enough. because i only lost 35 bls in 7 months but  lost 17 lb moore from the diet pill
