You are not a failure already. This is normal to hit a stall the first month out. It will start dropping off again. Read the main forum or the rny board and you will read about someone hitting a stall a few times a day. You can also read about the experiences of those who have been through it. It will only make you stronger. It did for me.

Aloha!
Long time member...but have not been on the site in awhile. HON, take ten deep breathes and relax!! Your body is doing exactly as it is intended to do! If you haven't been surgically altered and your body had the immediate and fast weight loss that you experienced, your body would automatically put the brakes on. Your body "thinks" you are starving to death. In order to "save" you, your overall metabolism has been adjusted to go at a snails pace. This is where most folks panic and also, make the mistake of eating less, which reinforces what your body thinks about the starvation thing. You aren't a failure. Welcome to your first Plateau! You will survive this and you will most likely also have more of them before you get to your goal weight.
The key to success after this surgery is to realize that (1) never compare yourself to others...this is hard but by comparing yourself to others, you will drive yourself completely insane (been there, done that!).. (2) When you hit a plateau, don't panic and start to eat LESS! Your body will then go into a deeper starvation mode. Though it may defy your "logical" thinking, I have found that the key to breakiing my plateaus is to eat more and/or change your food choices a bit. If you eat the same exact thing every day....your body becomes regulated to your dietary intake and even though our brain is willing, the body takes over.
Remember, this journey is not an overnight or immediate fix to our life-long struggle with obesity. Your journey is your own. What works for some may not work for others. The key is to find out what works for YOU.. And also, give yourself a pat on the back for what you HAVE accomplished and realize that we don't have a tremendous amount of control over our metabolism during the first 18+ months. I urge you to take pictures so that you can vividly see your wonderful and SUCCESSFUL changes/weight loss. Resist the urge to compare yourself to others and more importantly, remember that the goal is to become a healthy person...and your body is designed to protect you and is doing exactly as Nature intended.
Congrats on your wonderful accomplishments and know that you have done great and will continue to do so all along the way during this journey. (Think MODERATION..not perfection!)..
Also, my last preaching words: Be 100% COMPLIANT with your vitamins and supplementation!!!!!!!! Your long term success depends on it. (THis is another story for another day!!!)
Again, congrats!!!! You are doing great.... don't let your brain psyche you out. (They have a habit of doing that! I still have "FAT BRAIN SYNDROME" even after five years. I still struggle with feeling obese.)
Have a great day!

Facing Reversal Surgery and TERRIFIED!!!
Hey we had our surgery around the same time. I too have hit a stall. I havent lost a pound in the past 12 days. I am very frustrated. I lost a total of 60lbs. I think we have to be patient. We have just began this journey and have a long way to go. Look at the weight we have lost and the changes our body is going through. Unbeleivable!!! If I had my way I wish I could wake up and be thin but thats not realistic. I know that. So Paula lets be proud of where we came from and enthusuatstic of where we are going, sweetie in another 6 months or so you will be like a kid in a candy store when it comes to shopping for clothes, I know I will. Good luck and I will definitely keep up with you.

I'm 11 months out and I have lost pretty much 10 lbs a month every month. No more, no less. And for three of those weeks I drift up and down 2-3 lbs, then suddenly lose 5-8. I eat what I'm supposed to, get in all my vitamins and water, and I exercise faithfully 35 minutes every day.
To be honest, I try to stay away from the boards most of the time because seeing other people's results discourage me. I've lost the same amount of weight faster with far less drastic procedures. But I'm telling myself that this is the time I'll keep it off.
