LapBand and Want Revision to Different....
Good Morning, I had LapBand on 12/8/04...11 months later (122lbs) down, my band slipped 4 inches and caused major pain and had to have emergency surgery to have band replaced. Ever since then I have slowly gained weight back. I have had nothing but problems, and now I have been told I have GERD do to the band. I feel as if I have failed. However, I would like to have a revision to either the RNY or the DS. I'm not sure which. My insurance will more than likely approve it, since I have had so many problems and have been in and out of the hospital.
What would you guys suggest? I just feel like I have failed. Please advise! Thank you!

The DS all the way. Read enough and you'll find very few DS'rs who aren't happy with their surgery and virtually no DS'rs *****gain. Nothing to break with the DS. Then go to the RNY boards and the revision boards and see how many RNY'rs (and lapbands) regain and are seeking revision. The only revisions I've ever seen with the DS are those who need to lengthen their Common Channel due to losing too much and that is rare, rare, rare. Some with extra stubborn metabolisms have to low carb it to a degree but still are in size 10's.
There are a number of options out there. My suggestion is to research, research, and then do some more research. Go to each of the forums and check out the posts on each of those. Ask questions and see what replies you get back.
My bet is that you will get your best results from the DS forum. Never seen anyone asking for a revision from the DS. Those DS people rock the world when it comes to weight loss surgeries and quality of life after wls.
I am hopeful of having the DS sometime within the next 2 months. Started out looking at the band, then to the sleeve, then to RNY and wala I found the DS. For me, I am only going to have one shot at this thing and it has to be something that I can live with for the rest of my life. I believe that the DS is just exactly that, the best option for me.
Do your research and make an informed decision.
Much success in whatever decision you make.
