Want to look into revision - Cincinnati area

Hi. I had open RNY in Jan of 2002. I lost 125 pounds during the first 8 months only. Then I started regaining the weight. I put over 60 pounds back on. At this point, I'm still at 260 pounds (5'6"). I can eat anything I want, and I'm hungry every two hours. I'm trying to diet again, and I've lost about 10 pounds so far. I'm wanting to look into a revision, but don't know which doctor I should try to get in to see. Any suggestions for the Cincinnati, OH area? I had my RNY in Georgetown, KY, but now live in OH and would prefer to see a dr closer to me. The doc who did my surgery moved to TN as well. Also, my PCP here is a quackster, oh how I miss my Primary doc in KY. My current doctor actually suggested getting braces when I approached her about helping with my weight. NO KIDDING. So, if I need a referral, it would be great if any of you can suggest a good PCP as well. I have BCBS PPO insurance and hope like crazy they will pay for a revision. Any help is appreciated!!

I am from La but I have seen alot on the Lap BAnd forum about TRace Curry, not sure where in OH he is located but he is a wonderful doc - he, himself posts on the Lap bAnd site often. I know he does RNY also. Check him out. Michelle

"hungry every 2 hours" Boy if that doesn't sound like me, pre-revision, nothing does. I had a couple of very well known surgeons try to talk me into a revision of my failed surgery,(yes, it was the surgery that mechanically failed, which caused the hunger every 2 hours), but why on earth would I want another WLS that could and most probably would fail again? That's why I chose the DS. REad my profile to hear more. And good luck to you.

I wanted to respond to this sooner but I don't log on or read very often and it took me several days to remember my changed password and user name. duh. Your story is very similar to mine. I had open RNY Feb. of 2002, lost 100lbs. for about five minutes and fluctuated 5 to 10 lbs. for years. I never reached goal. This past year or so I started gaining and am up 30lbs. About a year ago I started looking into revisions and even went to a new surgeon since mine moved his practice out of town and stopped taking my insurance after the first year anyway. I feel I didn't get the after care I needed. Basically, I feel like I was cut open, had my guts rearranged and sent on my way. The Dr. I saw recently was Dr. Wesley Alexander and he said he could do a revision but questioned me about my eating habits. They are terrible. Anyway, the idea of surgery scared me so I've tried dieting off and on and as we all know this doesn't work. Diets make you fatter. This past Saturday I saw one of his dietitians and tried her eating plan. Another total failure......If I could do 1200 calories a day (even with my smaller stomach) I would never have had this problem. So my plan now is to do a carb detox for a few days and then see if I can eat like I should without "dieting" and if this doesn't work, reconsider revision. I have an appointment Feb. 3 for my first thorough blood work in 4 years and may have made a decision or at least a plan by then. I don't know what to do. Some of the people who have had revision to DS sound like paid advertisements for the procedure. I hope that doesn't offend anyone but sometimes it sounds too good to be true. I have been feeling very desperate, frustrated, depressed and like a total failure for the past couple of years. Sorry this is so long.

Brenda, you said we sound like paid advertisements for the DS. I'm so sorry we sound like that to you but the truth is, we have had great success with our surgery, the DS has the best wl percentages and the lowest percentages of regain. It truly is a terrific wls, if you can commit to taking your supplements faithfully, getting your labs done regularly, eating your protein first and learning what does and does not give you gas. Other than that, it's all good. I suggest you PM some of the Ohio DS'rs and try to meet with them in real life so you can see for yourself the quality of life they have after their DS. I'd also like to ask you this; what other board has so many people absolutely thrilled with their surgery, their weight loss and the foods they can eat? Read this pubs: http://tinyurl.com/yx2bbv http://tinyurl.com/y7y4ya http://tinyurl.com/suzsg Do some honest research and read about all the surgeries. Best to you.
