Had my surgery Feb. 28 ,2006 and have devoted my life to eating correct and excersie daily walking 3 miles and gazelling up to 30 min. a day. After the first few months vomiting several times daily now that is under control to 1 a week or so. My Question is could I have stretched my pouch with the vomiting? also my last consult with my Physician lead me to beleive I had that was 4 months ago after having a barium swallow of why I was vomiting so much and to tell you the truth on that xray my pouch looked huge. can I have a revision?? with the RNY this soon out I know I have lost all I will lose which was only 60 lbs I have been at 200 lbs for the last 4 months. My Family Physician cannot figure out why no more weight was lost. HELP PLEASEEEEEEEEE
Have you seen or talked to your actual surgeon? Are you tracking your food? Are you eating enough? The body has a funny response when it thinks that it is starving--it will go into starvation mode. I did that for about a month in a half. Have you talked to your nut? Before you stress out wondering if you stretched your pouch contact your surgeon.
Good luck

Deanna, A close friend of my had RNY done in Dec 2005 and when the DR conected her intestion to her stomach it was on the high side. She would vomit everything or else she would go every other meal before she would vomit. What was happening was the food was building up in her pouch and had no where to go. She was alble to have a revision done and at the same time they put a lap band on. Yes she did stretch out her stomach but at least they found the problem and was able to correct it for her. You may want to ask you doctor about this and see if it could be your problem. Hope this will help you with questions to ask. Jenn
So vomiting can stretch your stomach?
Deana, I had my surgery a little before you did and have just came off a very long stall. Don't give up yet, you are not done losing, keep doing the right things and you'll be sure to lose.
I am still in the 200's too, still have about a good 100lbs to go, it gets fusterating I know, but hang in there.
I don't know about stretching your pouch by vomiting but vomiting can definitely cause staple line disruption. Get your PCP to order an endoscopy, that will tell you whether or not your RNY is mechanically sound. Also ask what test they would have to do to see whether or not you have an enlarged stoma.
I think you may be jumping the gun a little, it has taken me almost 4 years to lose my 210 lbs, it takes time.
And as for vomiting stretching our pouches that is the first time I have ever heard that, and let me tell you I have thrown up a million times (the last time being yesterday) so if this was true, my pouch would be GIANT!
Hang in there, you are doing fine, it just takes time!
