after 20 months of losing just 50lbs with the lapband, I have decided to do a revision to RNY. The surgeon that I picked said that the revision can be more complicated but should go okay. He is going to remove the band and then do the rny at the same time. For all you people that have had this done, how are the complications following conversion of the lapband to the RNY> Stepn

I had the lapband placed in July 2002. By April 2005, I had only lost 40 pounds and had a dilated esophagus so I converted to RNY. I have only lost 44 pounds since that. I have been between 195 and 205 since January of 2006. My surgery wasn't a failure but I can eat more than most people because of the dilated espohagus. I exercise faithfully but usually end up eating about 1,500 calories a day. You may want to look into the Duodenal Switch. I sometimes wish I had done that instead of RNY.

I got the adjustable lap baind in 03 and in 05 found I had lost 13 pounds and it slipped into my hiatial hernia. So Nov 05 I had the revision to the RNY bypass. I had to have the open RNY since they were removing my band and fixing the hernia. It was painful of course but they worked on getting my pain controled then I was ok. Really really sore muscles and walking was a pain in the stomach trying to get up. Once I got moving it really heped. From Nov to Dec I lost 50 pounds. I had a structure in my stoma (?) and had to be scoped a few times and since then I have not lost any weight. I am about to go in and see the doc to find out why. I would still do it over and over again if needed. I went from 288 with the band to 270, then 273 to 220. I hope you have more success then I and become healthy! Casey
