Stapling Revision~Do they exists?
I am 53 and had stomach stapling done over twenty years ago, was not successful. I am trying to find any information on anyone who has had a revision from a stomach staple to gastric. What doctor will do the surgery? What are the complications, the pros, the cons, basically just any information that can be provided. I need help & am currently feeling very discouraged~ Karen :help:
Hi karen, this type of revision is done all the time..when you had your surgery it was done with just the staple line where they did not seperate the stomach making a new pouch, if you havn't been scoped or had other test like Upper GI, you probably don't know if the staple line is still in tack, often times it opened right after surgery or partially opened so many didn't lose all their weight or gained it back later.
There are some awesome surgeons out there so do your home work! I know of two surgeons in Kentucky near Lexington that can do this procedure laparoscopically and have been very successful..
email me if you want more information

Hi Karen. I'm sorry I'm just now seeing this post. There have been loads and loads of revisions done to procedures like yours! You are not an anomaly at all . Many people who get revisions do extremely well. There is growing interest in the Duodenal Switch as an excellent choice for revision. I'd like to invite you to take a look at www.duodenalswitch.com for some great information on this procedure. There is a forum there and there are associated Yahoo groups, but many of the forum members post on the Duodenal Switch forum here on OH as well.
Take heart, it can be done and work very well.
