I Am Failing Myself Big Time....

Well last months I made 5 years post-op but I am seriously stressed out over gaining more weight... I went down from my starting weight of 330 lbs to 187 lbs but I have now gained back 53 lbs all together sense June 21, 2001... Due to a ton of stress, my old eating habits of food being my friend and comfort zone have returned. I don't know what to do anymore and I am wondering if anyone gained back a ton of weight and perhaps had the surgery done again?... Wouldn't they just -re-staple or what would be involved...perhaps band the pouch??? Reply appreciated... Thanks Birgit

Just curious...have you tried going back to the basics? Alot of folks in the main message board say things like that. Get all your trigger foods out of your house...record what you eat, when you exercise, how much water you drink and go see your nutritionist. That may help you to lose some of the weight you'd gained back. The important thing is to do something now before you gain more back. Try to find a quiet place if you can to just stop thinking..meditate if you will...so that you can destress for a little bit. It's not easy, but it probably is necessary. Do you attend support groups? They might help. As for the band on the pouch...I've heard of that, but I don't think many docs do that right now. I think your pouch has the ability to shrink just like your reg. stomach did. So, if you really pay attention to portion size? I don't know for sure. I'm wondering if you might get a better response from the main message board because it has more activity? I wish you the best of luck. I hope that someone with more experience can answer you too. Take care. Cathy

The posting by Cathy is exactly what I was gonna suggest. I think at only 53 lbs of weight gain is still where you can work the tool you have been given. And as stated it is gonna be HARD!!! But before you consider more surgery - start getting back to basics...get back to working out and focusing back on you. I know with family and the drama it's hard but you also need to concentrate on you and your tool. You can do this!!

I have tried goign back to the basics, but nothing seems to help. I stopped the Vitamins cause they seemed to make me even more hungry. I don't know what else there is and I am just gaining by looking at food. I have gained another 7 lbs and its driving me insane. I know my stomach had expanded, there is not telling how much. Cause somedays I can eat a large amount of food without getting full and somedays I take a couple of bites and I get sick... So not sure on what is happening there but I am wondering if my Doctor would consider in re-doing the surgery. I haven't asked because I don't want him to think of me as a complete failure...
