I have read some of your stories and questions. I told my self that I would "pay it forward" because fo the success I have had. I have tremendous gratitude and wish to give back by doing you the favor that was done to me 6 months ago. A man from the NJ board emailed me and told me to look into the DS. Thank God for him. 4 months ago I had the Duodenal Switch. I have lost 62lbs and have never been happier. My loss is a little slower than RNYers, but my quality of life is so much better. I have never thrown up or dumped. I have a working stomach and there is never a fear of anything getting stuck. My therapist is amazed at how normal my life is compared to her RNY patients. I went to a surgeon who does RNY, Lap and DS. He told me that many surgeons won't do the DS because it takes a long time to train and he gets paid the same for a DS as he does for an RNY eventhough the DS is more complicated. Many surgeons can't be bothered to offer the DS because it doesn't pay for THEM. Thank God for Dr. Gagner!! Please, do some research to see if it is a surgery you could have. It has cured my insulin resistance and it has a higher rate of success with KEEPING THE WEIGHT OFF!! Yay! Good luck on your journey to a healthier you. I hope you find success. Christina

I too am going through the journey to WLS and have selected the DS. Originally, I was sure I'd do the lap band, but decided that having to get fills every few months for the rest of my life didn't seem realistic (for me) and I know someone who had it done and lost over 100 and has gained it all back and then some. Then I decided the RNY was for me until someone sent me info about the DS and I did research and comparisons and thank God that person introduced me to the DS. It has the highest success rate of any of the WLS of keeping the weight off. The weight loss is slower (about an average of 10 pounds per month) but the statistics for long term success are the greatest. No dumping syndrome and no chewing until food is mush. There are only 3 doctors in my area that do the DS and they were all out of network providers but since there are only 3 that do it my insurance will cover as "out of area" at the same rate as in network. I'm so excited to have found out about this surgery and hope that the interest in it continues to grow as people research its success rate. Michelle

Hey Christina I'm so happy I happened upon your post. I think this is the second time ever I've come to this forum. I did so today because I am getting a bit nervous about having my wls. But, reading your post, thank you very much, has calmed me down sooooo much. You are an I am having the DS on August 7, 2006 performed by Dr. Gagner at Cornell. I don't think life just happens....I truly believe I was meant to read your post. Like I said, I think I've only ventured to this forum one other time. So, with gratitude, I thank you for posting and perhaps now I can go from to Continued Success Linda

Hi Linda! I am SO glad that you are going to be switched on the 7th AND that reading my post has reassured you!! I am SO happy with my results!!! I am almost 7 months out and down 80lbs. I eat well, have never thrown up...I am thrilled. You will be in the best hands. If you need anything at all, please email me. I think my cell phone is also listed. I will be in Dallas form the 3rd to the 7th, but you can still reach me. There will be bumps in the road, don't get me wrong. The first few days are not fun and sleeping is hard for the first month (I am a side sleeper and my tummy kept pulling too hard and hurting so I had to back sleep). Everything will be so worth it. Remember that it is hard because you don't "see" results for awhile and all of the pain seems for not at first. Hang in there. All of my best and I will be praying for you on the 7th. tell Dr. G I say hi! Christina Beck 280/198/?
