Limit set by MY Dr was 20-50 , counting all carbs.w/ low fat and High protein, 90grams orig goal and i maintain that most of the time.remain within 10-15 lbs of goal after more than 2 decades. find what works for you. I never count calories. only protein and always carbs.fat tolerance is low. pouch reminds me if i eat too much.2-3 days of not counting carbs is a precursor to carb cravings which are really difficult for me to break...since blood sugar drops also accompany those.

Is that a typo? 400 carbs is 1600calories. Add "a lot" of protein and fat to that and your calories would have to be 3000 or more.

Hi all,

Real happy to have found the group here.

I am new here but a grandpa in DS, i am 53 and and a Greek, living in Greece, and had the DS 20 years ago, from Dr. Baltazar in Spain.

It was and still is a huge success and i lost 100 kilos and got to 80 kilos that i currently am from 180 that i was.

I eat everything and being a very naughty patient, i never had any vitamins, apart of iron infusions once in a blue moon,

meaning maybe every couple of years and so on. All blood tests are fantastic by the way, apparently after years imho

our body finds ways to cope with vitamins deficiencies etc.

Been feeling fine all the time and had 2-3 bowel movements a day after the 1st year and remained at that ever since.

But in the last 8 months or so i developed a peculiar uncomfortable condition having greenish, whiteish puss coming out of my (sorry), anus, and being forced to wear special incontinence underpants. My doctor here (an Internist and gastroenterologist said just, that its a side effect of my operation and there is nothing he can recommend apart of some enzymes for my guts (pancreas), that didn't do anything.)

So i am asking for some help here and if there is any one that has had similar side effects and how they dealt with it

if they managed to reduce it or get rid of it.

Thanks to all, good luck with the operation for the ones prepping for it.

Sincerely and with respect to all,

Antonis

this is definitely not normal. Green white puss coming from anywhere is a sign of infection.

I would get a second opinion and maybe a third snd fourth opinion till someone who knows what they are talking about does something.

you need st the very least lAb work to see if your white blood cells are elevated, indicating infection. I would be insisting on having a colonoscopy to look for issues.

good luck and this is NOT normal.

I don't know if Kaiser has the provision to reimburse you for outside charges (probably difficult as they like to do everything themselves in house.) I suspect that this is one of those situations where they need to be "trained" on what you need, and once that is done, it should go easier the next time. Would Dr. K be willing to call your primary doc there and explain to him why these labs are so important (and how it will save them in the long run)? Failing that, it may be worth trying to go through it the hard way with their multiple appeals, documenting their necessity.

Kaiser is certainly not a DS friendly group, as they don't have the ability to perform them in house, but quite a few have had them done in their ticket after the appeals get to the state level and they are directed to cover it, so they can be familiar with what is required for it. One of the guys in our SoCal support group (loosely taken over by Dr. ****il covid hit and everything went virtual) had a DS that SoCal Kaiser revised (lengthened his common channel), so they do know how to treat DS patients, but you may have to rub their nose in it to get them to respond.

In short, it is probably worth the effort to be pushy, but if it is too much for you, then it may well be better to go with another insurance provider. My wife has had little problem getting her annual labs done with the carriers we have had (PPO type coverage) even though she was a self pay on her DS (from the "investigational/experimental" days.)

Good luck, and be a squeeky wheel.

I agree that you need more than one opinion. In the US, there is a very small tampon called Tampax Pearl. Inserting one into your rectum would be safe and probably less messy then incontinence underwear.
