I am 10 years out from my DS surgery. Your explanation sounds similar to what I have experienced. My symptoms were very distended belly due to A LOT of gas and then I started having very loose stools. My doctor described my situation as "Blind Loop Syndrome" part of our intestines that are attached to the liver only have bile pass through and can have an overgrowth of bacteria grow there. Antibiotics were prescribed and it helped tremendously. Hope this helps you.
