Stomach Issues 10 years out
I am 10 years out, have lost 300 pounds. My health is generally good...numbers are great except anemia sometimes and low Vitamin D from time to time I can address with prescription supplements. But in the last year my stomach issues have gotten increasingly worse. I vomit a lot. Now it's up to once a day after eating . I had a hospital stay in August related to it and they did a zillion tests and were like "eh, acid reflux?"
I have an appointment with a new gastro doctor this week but did anyone have a problem like this and is there something I should be having them look for that they are unaccustomed to cause of my unique DS makeup? My gallbladder and appendix are gone so nothing to do with them. My uterus is gone so nothing to do with that. Obstruction ? Hernia? I dont know. It's a mystery that they can't seem to unravel thus far.
Yes in the hospital they did an endoscopy and did the contrast to check my esophagus cause they were worried Id have some tears from the vomiting. They found nothing that led them to be concerned
We tried but the treatment didnt work. So I went to a gastroenterologist today and they are sending me for an endoscopy and ct scan to make sure I have no obstructions or inflammation and barring that we have to look at more aggressive acid treatment.
Maybe it's something they haven't thought of. Any new vitamin brands? Some iron supplements can do that to me. Do probiotics help? Might be some bacterial overgrowth situation. Have you kept a food diary, since you don't vomit after every meal? Gluten sensitivity can develop after surgery and that can cause nausea and vomiting in response to meals with wheat products (doesn't matter if it is whole wheat or white flour), barley or rye. Does it matter if the food you eat is smooth, liquid or puréed or if the meal is small or large? It seems like they are trying to eliminate the most important causes of frequent vomiting like obstruction (be sure they did a GI contrast study) and reflux. Whatever the cause, know that frequent vomiting vastly increases your risk for vitamin deficiencies and you need more frequent blood work to see if you are developing any. So sorry this is happening to you.
Hi I am 6 years out I found out with my stomach problems that I had a hernia It was small but it pushes up.in my chest. However my surgeon stated its not big enough to remove but its very uncomfortable.
Was actually in the hospital yesterday cause had chest pains same day as my endoscopy. Turned out to be nothing. But they did the endoscopy anyway and my gasto says stomach is fine, no obstructions or issues but my esophagus is "a mess" from acid reflux so new meds to treat and have to return in 2 months to check progress.
