Vitamin issues . . . Help!

I'm 4 weeks out from my DS and I have tried 3 different kinds of chewable multivitamins. I can't keep any of them down. I choke and gag and vomit violently every time I try, which is incredibly painful. Can I take capsules instead of chewables? I feel like I might have better luck if I didn't have to chew/taste it.

MissMaggie I feel your pain. I am 7 week out now but had the same problem. My doctor told me I can start capsules when I out 1 month post.

I hope you feel better soon

I never did the chewables, I was taking the full size ones at one week out. I do take the melt aways for my fat solvable ones but that's it.

yes you can take whole pills. I never used anything else from day one.

Forget chewables and just take the pills. I started taking mine on my 6th day postop. I waited a couple week to start the iron because that's the one that usually can cause nausea. But no problems with the rest of them.

My surgeons office has advised chewables for the first 6 months because apparently they're "easier" on a healing stomach. So far they've advised me to crush them up into some yogurt but that's just as bad.

It seems like nobody here had problems with capsules right out of the gate, so I'm going to go that route. I can't be throwing up every day.

Thanks for all your input, everybody!

Sorry you're having issues. Obviously it's not "easier" for you so they have to give you an alternative.

I never took chewables. I started with either capsules I'd open up (and mix into something like applesauce or something) or pills cut in half to make swallowing easier.

I was taking pills before I left the hospital and have never once had a chewable. Closest for me was sublingual b-12

Definitely try pills instead. I was taking 12 capsules the day I got home from the hospital, nice and slow, but I got them down just fine.
