New symptom after new symptom
Dizziness began about 5 days into the 2 week pre surgery diet. My surgeon called me, asked @ my food and said eat more. I struggled with the livid diet and brain fog for almost two weeks. Lost 14 pounds before my surgery
Surgey was typical DS I came out of auegeru with dizziness and some slight nausea and slight imbalance issues. My 3-week recovery both at a family members house (10 days) and 11 days at my place was NOT long enough. Dizziness, acid reflux (mostly stopped when taking iron before bed) naseua continued, and some vertigo/imbalance started (when I got back to my place)
Went back to work after three weeks. Developed migraines (fluorescent lights at work?) vertigo got worse, could feel the building shake which aggravated my vertigo and was sitting at a computer for 8 hours. Then going home exhausted!
Third day into my job vertigo was so bad. I felt and looked like a drunk person trying to walk. And my water intake improved drastically back at work! Went to ER that Thursday (to same hospital as my surgey) they said not dehydrated, did my blood work it was fine and my bP was fine once I calmed down. Stayed home from work the next day, die to exhaustion.
Pushed through work the next week despite symptoms staying.... Valium for my vertigo did help some, but migraines continued!
The next week I was exhausted trying to get ready for work... but found eating my protein have me a bit of energy so I went into work late but was there. Later had to leave to see an ENT specialist.. only to find out he thinks the vertigo is related to the surgery!!! He ordered a CT scan cause he thinks the bone in my inner ear is deterioting
Anyone else have this problem??? I can have a really good day and get a lot done but then I am out and exhausted and can barely move for one to two days
Oh and now when I get hungry... my stomach doesn't growl or talk - I literally just get nauseous that's when I know I have to eat... and precisely when I don't want to eat
so the past two weeks it's been hard to eat or drink much because I was constantly nauseous, with the dizziness and vertigo. And on top of it my menstrual cycle never happened despite not eating, I have not lost much weight since my surgery
No.... couldn't call my surgeon for help... cause when I was at the ER 2 weeks prior the ER do. Informed me, my surgeon quit.
luckily was able to get in to see a different Bariatric surgeon at the last minute last Tuesday... so I have someone to follow please with and is willing to fill out my intermittent FMLA.... since it was denied because the other office never sent it in cause the doc want there to sign off on it.
I have my CT scan tomorrow 9/31/18). I hope my ear bone is messed up so they can fix it (another surgery) and the vertigo can stop.
I am whining and I know it! I feel like crying most days I feel miserable. Despite all this crap going on the past 9 weeks (2 weeks pre op) I have lost 51 pounds.
My newest symptom is I am not hungry ever.. and I don't feel like eating ... much less peeping food for the week
my boss is supportive and understand the FMLA process but at the same time frustrated at my lowered productivity. I want to talk back at her and remind her I can't accomplish a goal that takes 4 weeks in 3... along with dizzy and vertigo. I mean **** Valium helps to decrease the intensity of the vertigo.... but a nasty side effect Is short term memory loss and cognitive sluggishness.
I kinda feel like I can't win for nothing. Although I have won 51 pound release from my body. And won decrease to zero knee pain when I walk up steps!!
Ii do belong to a face to face support group that meets twice a week; but I talk to much and have seen other people's eyes roll when I do talk!
Cant make everyone like you all the time! And part of knows their opinion of me is not my problem to take on.
Oh... I had to get my surgeons notes and reports to take to the new doc.... and found out my common channel is 250 cc!! I guess I had a really longgg small intestine?? Or maybe he was taking into consideration my food allergies and sensativities.
I can't have whey or casein products; so no milk, no cheese and not even beef. Certain fishes I can't eat, and some really healthy antioxidant stuff like blueberries or spinach!
I feel miserable. Single so I don't have anyone to cook or do chores which I don't have energy for. I don't want to go to work tomorrow... but my PTO is running low and I may need it if I need ear surgery.
Here is what I could use if someone can help me... I need a dietician or nutritionist who is willing to go over my "I can't eat list" and help come up with a meal plan. I talked tot he dietician at my program and when I asked for help with a meal plan the response was ..... sigh.. that would take some time to actually do. Here is a list of healthy meals. Grabbed me a copy and was talking about them and eat meal he would say.... oh that won't work for you you can't eat eggs, have milk, beef, cheese.
I'm long winded.... I just thought maybe other DSers would understand this better than my family and friends who offer condolences cause they are clueless how to help or guide me.
For what's it's with despite the physical symptoms.. I am mentally excited about the weight loss. And emotionally n psychologically have released many of not most issues which caused my creeping weight gain the past 27 years.
Thanks for reading/listening if you even got this far! ?
Wow, I cannot even imagine living with a DS with your limitations on protein! I guess soy or pea protein is what you want to go for until you can eat enough. I have no idea how the DS can affect inner ear bone deterioration only 7 weeks post-op, either. That sounds ridiculous.
Also, who gave you a 250cc?? Did you get SADI/SIPS/Loop instead? That long of a cc sounds like their playbook.

I don't think the bone loss in your ear is from the surgery. That kind of loss doesn't happen in 3 months.
I think the bone loss was happening prior to the surgery,it can take years, and as a coincidence,it has gotten bad enough in these three months to start causing problems.
i hope there is a repair for it so you can get rid of the vertigo
i agree that you are going to HAVE to get your protein in some how. Are you being compliant in taking all your supplements daily? You MUST do that or you are going to have more serious problems than you do now.
51 pounds in 9 weeks with a 250 cm common channel? I don't know where you started out, but that is unprecedented. Please be in weekly touch with your new surgeon. The only healthy diet after DS is mostly protein and that should have been emphasized before you even had the surgery. It might help to talk with a therapist, since all the sudden changes in your health and your workplace issues would be tough for anyone to cope with.
Sorry, I'm having a hard time getting through your entire post, but reading some of the responses, I agree that the bone loss in your ear was probably already deteriorated before your DS.
You don't say when your surgery was (so I can't figure out how far out you are from your post).
You do mention that you're not hungry ever. Again, I don't know how far out you are. With the DS you can't wait until you're hungry to eat. Most DSers graze. You need protein, period. You have to find protein you can eat. If it's through supplements, then that's what you have to do. You talk about what you can't eat. Remember that with the DS your mindset regarding food has to change, and change dramatically. What you call "healthy antioxidant stuff" isn't healthy for the DS. For me personally I can't even eat spinach anymore (my body can't seem to break it down) and blueberries are only an occasional topping for high protein greek yogurt. You need protein and fat. If you can't eat eggs, beef, cheese, fish, what were you planning on eating post-op? I assume you had a plan to ultimately get 100 grams of protein per day. Can you eat shellfish? Great source of protein. What about chicken or turkey?
I also suggest finding a therapist (hopefully your insurance will cover it). I usually suggest that pre-op.

A lot to go through there. Just a couple of things that struck me.
Don't worry about not knowing when you are full or having different signs that you are hungry. I went for the first 4 or 5 months measuring my meals in 3 or 4 oz so I would know I wasn't overeating. When I did accidentally overeat I would either get the foamies or just throw up.
I also had to schedule my meals for several months because I wasn't interested in eating at all. Nothing prompted me that I was hungry but I knew I had to get as much protein and hydration in as possible. So, everything got scheduled.
Maybe it would be easier if you listed your usual protein sources. I see Optimum Nutrition now is selling a protein shake that is 100% isolate as opposed to their 100% whey so you might look at that.
Rereading the part about your ear, do you know if there is a bone problem from some past comment or are you just guessing for the moment? I haven't heard of someone having vertigo this bad before. I hope they find something they can fix.
Hope the new surgeon you found is helpful too.
