Where can I find RELIABLE info on the DS

I am still in very early research phase and when I google I find a lot of information and history about RNY but very little long term about DS or sleeve. Is the DS a newer procedure? Where can I find more information that is not Wikipedia type stuff?

The DS is not new at all. It has been done in the USA since 1988 and has been a standard of care bariatric surgery since, as I recall, 1991. There are long term studies documenting the excellent results of the DS published in the medical literature - the best statistics of any bariatric surgery for percentage excess weight loss, for maintaining that weight loss (a BIG problem with some other procedures) and for permanent resolution of almost all comorbidities.

The sleeve, as a stand alone, is much newer. Some people do well with it, others never lose as much weight as needed or struggle with weight regain. We are seeing more people all the time wanting to revise from sleeve to DS. This revision makes more sense than revising to gastric bypass both because the sleeve is part of the DS, and also because long term results of the DS are superior to those of gastric bypass.

If you would like an article or two discussing the long term results of the DS, send me a pm.

For a long time (even when I had my DS 14 years ago) it was considered "experimental". Johns Hopkins has some good information as does the ASMBS (American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery). Try googling Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch instead of just DS.

Here's a link to the ASMBS.

Dsfacts.com has some good information, as well. You'll find technical information as well as real-life experience from vets (like me).

DSFacts.com is a good basis. You can find a lot of information from some of the more well known surgeons.

Some info on Dr. Gagners site - https://cliniquemichelgagner.com/en/surgeries/laparoscopic-d uodenal-switch

A lot of info on dr. Keseshian's blog and web site at https://www.dssurgery.com/

Lots of studies like this: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18219767

More links on DSFacts

Here's an older comparison netween the bypass and DS from Time mag:

Lots of stuff to read and explore.
