Increasng Vitamin D levels
Does anyone (Gina??) have recommendations for raising a low vitamin D level?
My latest lab results show my vitamin D levels at 27.6 ng/ml (the recommended range is 30.0 to 100.0 ng/ml). I do very comprehensive lab work and all other results are in a healthy range.
I take 50,000IU vitamin D a day (& have for more than 2 years).
For reference, here are the daily totals for my supplements:
DHEA 10mg
Opti-zinc 120mg
Vitamin D 50,000IU
Vitamin E- 800 mg
Vitamin A 125,000IU
Lutein 30mg
Zeaxanthin 30mg
Vitamin B-1 500mg
Chromium Nicotinate Glycinate 200mcg
MSM 1000 mg
Coenzyme B-Complex 80 mg
Vitamin B12 1000mcg
Gentle Iron (Bisglycinate) 200 mg
Copper, Chelated* 12mg
Potassium Citrate MEQ 45mg
Calcium Citrate & Malate 3000mg calcium citrate
Magnesium Citrate 1800mg
Biotin 5000mcg
Gotu Kola 1900mg
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) 100mcg
Vitamin K1 1000mcg
Boron Chelate 3mg
L-Tryptophan/5-HTP 1000mg
Valerian (standardized) to sleep
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You might try increasing your vitamin K2 up to 600 mcg a day-300 in the AM and 300 in the PM. You could also increase the dry vitamin D3 to 100,000 IUs for a month or so and go back to 50,000. When do you test again?

Thank you SO much!
I'll increase my vitamin D to 100,000IU for 4-6 weeks (as it will be less costly) and then re-test. If that doesn't resolve things, I'll then increase the K-2 as you suggested.
I'm pretty good with my supplements but just couldn't get my head around taking more than 50,000IU's a day.
I really appreciate your expertise.

I'm on 100k myself. You might also try to take one of them on an empty stomach. I've heard some discussion
that because the vitamind D from Biotech (I'm assuming this or some equivalent) is water miscible that it might be more
effective taken slightly away from food. You may be doing that already but something to think about.

I'd never heard that it may be better taken away from food. I just added the second dosage to my dinner supplements (I take the first one with breakfast), and now can't differentiate it from some of the capsules but moving forward. If i stay on the higher level, I'll separate it out moving forward.
Thanks for the suggestion.

I thought it might be worth trying especially since you will be taking 2 a day. One might fit into that kind of time slot.
It's not like I've seen any studies that would prove this one way or another. It's just a remark I hears on a Dr. Kesheshian webinar
so I thought it would be worth it to try. It's hard for me to tell but I think it added 6 or 7 points to my D level. Once I went to 100k
I was happy in the mid to high 50's and my latest labs put me at 67 but as with everything there are so many variables that it is
hard to say exactly what caused the increase.
