im currently in the process of doing what has to be done to get an approval for a revision from a LRNYGB to DS. i had my upper GI done last week. please help me interpret these results. this is what is says.... Rapid filling of the gastric pouch and rapid egress of contrast into the proximal jejunum with patent distal anastomosis and no evidence of intussusception. no comment on stretching of pouch or stoma. am i wrong to think that that there should be NOTHING rapid???? please help

I'm no medical expert, but I'm reading it as your pouch is emptying faster than normal, which is probably good news because it will help support your case for a revision.

I think this report is almost meaningless. Why wouldn't a thin fluid leave the pouch rapidly? That tells you nothing about how solid food acts. What is missing is any comment on the size of the pouch and of much greater importance, the size of the stoma. If the stoma is larger than it should be, the operation is useless because food falls right out of the pouch and the pouch is empty almost all the time. Since this operation works almost entirely via restriction, if you have no restriction, it doesn't work.

See if you can have whatever doctor ordered the test request that the radiologist add an addendum to the report with comment on the size of the stoma and the size of the pouch.

Now I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I think they account for a certain speed of exit. If the liquid leaves the body faster than expected, then there is cause for concern and it may indicate that there is stretching.

Your pouch fills rapidly, and empties rapidly with liquid. Your anastomosis is " patent" meaning as expected with your surgery. You may not have remarkable stretching of your stoma, or your surgeon didn't need that information, or got it from the fill/empty results. Possibly he used this as " standard" test by which he can give a diagnosis for which a revision surgery would be the treatment your insurance company would pay for.

I would say this is a typical result of a typical test for your case.
