15 years out and can't find decent follow up care!

Handy hint with Vit D.  Have your PTH tested with your D3.  If your PTH is high, it means you need more Vit D and calcium.  I take my Vit D away from food (generally when I get up in the middle of night due to my tiny weenie bladder).  I take 1-50k D, 1-25k A, and 400iu E, with my potassium and a dose of calcium.  When I wake up, I take another dose of calcium and one before I leave for work, then 3 times during the day with my regular vitamin schedule.  With enough D and calcium your PTH should come down.  Mine stays around 25-30.

There was a spreadsheet years ago, for keeping tract of your labs.  With the low/high limits (you may have to adjust to your labs testing).  Not sure if it's on DSfacts.  It's an easy way to see if any of your labs are high or low and to adjust your vitamins from there.  My B6 is always high, so I found a multi with minimum B6, then I add in B1, B2 and B12 separately.   Vitalady use to have a lab request sheet on her website.

I finally had to have iron infusions and I'm 7 yrs out.  I have info on a flash drive and my PCP has learned about the DS along with me.  She runs my labs and I check my results and put them on my spreadsheet.

You can always post your labs here and folks will take a look.

Thanks for your reply, and for the advice.  I actually do plan on having my PTH tested, as I have scheduled an appointment with an endocrinologist next week.  Because I have been D-deficient for so  many years, I'm concerned about my parathyroid function.

I think I will do as you suggest and post my next labs here to see what the true experts think.

You are taking dry D3?  How much per day?  I was taking 3-50k of D with my food during the day and my D was dropping.  As soon as I changed when I took it, it came up.  You could always take two first thing in the morning with calcium.  I take 3-Petits that I get at Sams (400 or 500 ct) bottle for $9.99.  Taking 12/day... I don't take vits for 2 days before I have labs drawn.

Yes, I take Dry D, but my PCP never wanted me to take more then 5K daily.  He was worried about toxicity.  He was satisfied with my D level rising very, very slowly; I really don't think he realized that taking years to go from a level of 4 to a level of 24 was not such great progress, and it's still less than half of what it should be.  Two years ago, another doctor added 50K three times a week.  That brought my levels up a little quicker, but still not good.  Last month, a new doctor increased my daily dose to 10K with the additional 50K three times a week.  So over the years, I've gone from 35K/week to 185K/week to 220K/week.  Today, I made the decision to start taking 50K every morning.  I see the endocrinologist in a week, and I'm sure he'll want to run some labs.

I'm curious, what's the reason to stop vits 2 days before lab work?

Thank you to everyone *****plied to my initial post and encouraged me to become more proactive in my own postop management.  Good news!   Based on lots of reading and research, and with helpful information from knowledgable DS vets on this site and others, I made some changes in my vitamin schedule, and also started iron and increased my vit D3 two weeks ago. Labs done yesterday show significant improvement already.
