Do you have to stop using artificial sweeteners in order to achieve maximum weight loss?

I didn't. I probably increased sweeteners with all the protein shakes I was drinking. They're probably not good for us in general though.

I've heard that they can increase hunger, but our tiny stomach stops us from getting butt-wild anyway.  The problem with some of them is that certain ones (and they vary by person) can cause gastric distress, from bloating and gas all the way to diarrhea.

I drin****d tea with equal all day. And yes I have a LOT of gastric distress. Would it be better to go back to using sugar? Oh I just remembered, sugar causes the same thing.!!!

It's worth a try to eliminate it and see if it goes away...or try another sweetener.  You must keep in mind the amount of sugar you consume, for it adds up quick (too quick with beverages), and it's one thing that can stop all of our progress.

Other things to try eliminating

Milk and/or other dairy

Whey protein

onions

Found this one out the hard way! REAL cane sugar is even worse

I just never had a problem with artificial sweeteners. It didn't seem to change my weight loss one way or another although I did stop most carbonated diet drinks. Pretty much a crystal light guy these days.

Had to eliminate and solved my gastric issues and gas and bloating went away. I drink real sugar but not a lot and it has made a big difference

I have a monster sweet tooth and doubt I'll ever give up sugar. It does cause some unpleasant effects if I OD, but I still eat plenty of it everyday. Right now after 8 months I'm too skinny and I add sugar and carbs to try not to lose anymore weight.
