Duodenal Switch Complactions

I had my original surgery on 10/29/14, all was great. I went to my first post op appointment  on 11/5 and lost 19 lbs. On 11/8 I was transported to the hospital via Ambulance and on the 9th I was in emergency surgery I had over a liter of blood clots in my stomach. One 11/12 I was back in emergency surgery for a busted blood vessel in my stomach.  Needless to say I spent 33 days in the hospital and Im still having trouble eating and drinking enough.  Anyone have advice for me?

Sorry to hear you had all the post op problems. Im glad you're alive and will pray for a speedy recovery. Try to keep a positive attitude. One of my patients told me along time ago, everyday above ground is a good day! Merry Christmas

I'm so sorry you went through all this! We all have this surgery knowing that it's major surgery and that complications, including serious complications, can occur. Still, when things do happen, it's hard to get through.

The good news is that it sounds like these complications are behind you now, and it's become a matter of a prolonged recovery. Your poor stomach has been through a lot - more than the usual DS handling and trauma that we all experience. It's probably still swollen and not functioning well. This should resolve with time, but there isn't anything you can do to hurry the process along. Just be gentle with your stomach, don't try to pu**** too hard, which would only make things worse. Focus on staying well hydrated more than on food.

You WILL get better, and once you start to enjoy the benefits of the DS to your health and quality of life it will all be worth it.

merry christmas to you and hopefully you found some rest.  33 days in the hospital must have felt like an eternity and I am glad you are finally out.   I would not worry about how much you can eat, drink yes as it only takes a couple of days for us to become dehydrated, but you can be rehydrated with IV fluids rapidly if necessary.  Have you been worked up for  your internal blood clots?  Find a good hematologist.  Have you ever been tested for F-V Leiden and PT gene mutation?  Ask you drs about it.  You have had your share of complications, hopefully you can start recovering.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm trying to drink, but its not enough. I'm finally healing and should be going back to work in 3 weeks. So I hope to be off everything.  Hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and have a very Blessed New Years

That's rough but I'm glad it sounds like you are on the mend. Like Larra said keep sipping as much as possible
dehydration can just happen before you know it. As you heal the ability to eat food will get better.
