SADI-S, SIPS etc VS traditional DS - why docs are saying Yes!

The whole thing was pretty much just what I expected after having read all of the reviews I could find.

it was great. The hospital is very clean...there are always people cleaning day and night.

a lot of the nurses didn't speak much English but we managed. The doctors spoke very good English and Carla and Yolanda were there everyday during the day and they both speak perfect English.

I wasn't surprised but I was quite pleased. My husband who was a little unsure of the whole thing can't say enough good things. He felt very comfortable with the whole thing.

No regrets at all!

Hi Sue,

I'm in the same boat as you. My thumb hovers between the 'up'or 'down' position regarding SADI/SIPS .

I reside in England and the first hurdle to negotiate is actually finding a surgeon that can perform revision to DS or SADI. I am self funding as are most in the UK seeking revision and we can't seem to give our money away!

The pathway and criteria for revision surgery is the same for self payers as for those seeking the operation on the National Health Service.

I wish we had your choice of surgeons .

Hi there my name is Davina. I had a gastric sleeve April 2015 and have a provisional date for surgery for a DS in June. My doctor is Mr Mannur. Did you have the surgery? If so with whom? Look forward to hearing from you. Davina

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding of the type of procedure I had. This is the WLS procedure I have had:

SIPS and Sadi-s are the same thing...Dr. Roslin and Dr. Cottam just decided to call it something different as they've decided on a standard 300cm limb and a slighter larger sleeve whereas Dr. Pernaute of Spain who invented the procedure makes a 250cm limb.

Do you have a copy of your operative report? I still say if you really do have a 150cm cc that you have a traditional DS...if you really did have the Sad-s or SIPS, then it's very doubtful your limb is only 150cm.

Excellent...good for you.

It's very important to know exactly how your guts are arranged!

Katygee,

Just had my loop DS on 12/9/14 after research of both loop and standard DS. You hit the nail on the head about the shorter bowel. A whole lot more complications possible and greater diaherra(sp). The DS has been around a long time and in Europe it has been their standard. It never has really caught on in the US until recently. If you have Diatetes the DS might be the choice but unless you sugar  is high go loop ds. 6 days 18 lbs and feel great. A long way to go.I think like Pete said a person has to be informed and make their choice.

Do you have any links to articles or statistics on the SBS to cancer link? Is it just intestinal cancer that we are at risk for?

I looked online and found no link between SBS and cancer
