I am calling my doc tomorrow but what does this mean >190?  I would think it's high but it has this symbol >.  I was very low and been taking Vitamin d and calcium citrate for the last 3 years.

I am scared from what I am reading about high levels. What do you think?  I hope I can sleep tonight.  Ugh!

Thank you for your input.

Best,

Layla

Layla, ok first.....>means that it is over the assay range of detection.  I have never seen this in a DSer but in a normie yes, and you are a VSG only?  what did you have ordered?  did you have vit D 1 25?  The appropriate test to determine a patient's Vit D level is 25 OH vit D.  Vit D 1 25 is the active metabolite of vitamin D, serum levels of Vit D 1 25 do not reflect the body’s stores and are not useful for determining vitamin D status.   were you taking more than 5k/day for any length of time without testing?    What is your Ca?  how much have you been taking of both of them? and when was the last time you were tested?  if you are vit d toxic you would have symptoms.  I would have that repeated, your total 25 OH vit D repeated ,  and Ca.  I would stop taking both Ca and Vit D to make sure you dont have hypercalcemia.  let us know how you are doing.

Edit  your ordering Dr would have the result know exactly what was ordered and hopefully call you

Thank you so much for the reply.  So much info for me that I need to reference this post.  I was taking D & Calcium citrate without missing a beat for the last couple of years.  Yes only VSG. My labs are on that online medical option and my printer is not hooked up.  I have to call and go in maybe today if they have an opening.

Thank you so much Airbender.  I will update.

Oh,  are we all positive intrinsicfactor after our gastrectomies?  I too have a form of RA & that may be giving the positive reading.

Have a beautiful day.

D3 at 190 is high but not toxic. You could stop your D3 supplements for 6 weeks and ask to have it retested. Let's see where you are then. Don't panic, life guards come in at around 200 when tested for D3 and suffer no harmful effects. You want to bring it down between 70 and 100, so that 75 on your labs is just what that particular lab has seen and decided to call normal range.

That means that your vitamin D is greater than 190.

My vitamin D was extremely low pre-op, so I was taking 10,000 a day, it was fine at my 3 month blood work and borderline high at my 6 month, so now I'm only taking 5,000 a day.  We'll see what it's like when I retest in February!

That's funny, I was so confused by the >(greater than) symbol because of shock and confusion - the labs are also in a weird new format and I was so low prior to supplementing.  I can't believe that I overdosed myself!!! WTH!   Doc was shocked about my B12 - raised it from about 112 to 600+.  I am weaning myself off of supplementing and will see my doc on Dec. 17th and have my blood drawn.

No more freaking out.  I'd like to see how your levels are after you test in February.
