Hi I'm 4 days post op, my surgery wasn't lapsosposic, it was open, anyone have any idea when I'll feel a little bit comfortable again?

Mine was open.  You should feel much better in just a few days but it will be quite a while before you are totally healed!  Insist on adequate pain medication.  Settle for nothing less!

A can take a few days. I just didn't know what to expect I thought I'd feel better than I do. I didn't even stay in the hospital very long because the doc said I hit all my milestones, so my surgery was Tuesdays and I was sent home Thursday.  I was trying to tough it with out pain meds, but learned quickly that was a bad idea, now I'm trying to stay ahead of the pain.

It took me 2 weeks with laparascopic DS. I think I've seen folks with open surgeries post 4 to 6 weeks until they felt mostly human again. Heal quick and welcome to the dark side.

I think I just didn't have good expectations I really thought I would feel better than I do now, but sleeping, walking, sipping Oh and good medication...

My DS was lap but my bowel obstruction surgery was open.  I'm 5 weeks out today and it has been a slow time healing.  I have the added benefit of being able to eat and drink normally though so your energy will be lower than mine.  Take it easy and don't try to do too much.  Ask for help.  Ask for drugs.  Relax.  Walk and sip.

Yikes,  bowel obstruction that's not good was it related to your ds or just a fluke.   I'm not sure even if I could eat I would want to, my husband cooks for him and the kids and the smell is nauseating... Even apple pie, I was pleasantly surprised by that.

I see your user name is buffalo Bills fan, I'm from upstate NY, I lived in West Seneca when I was little which is very close to Orchard Park.

My DS was lap; however, my hysterectomy was open.  I had the energy of a slug for the first two months after each operation.

I did fine with OTC ibuprofen and didn't need the stronger pain meds.  I took ibuprofen about every 12 hours until all the pain subsided.

Recovery is such a personal experience.  Some are back to business in just a couple of weeks, while others take much longer to shake off the anesthesia fog as well as heal internally.  I was listless for a good 6 weeks before I started feeling like myself again, however my external incision was healed in only 2 weeks.
