I survived!!!  Had DS on 11/19.  Had a lot of vomiting and dry heaving for two days.  I think it was a reaction to the pain meds.  Still nauseous, but on zofran, which helps a lot.  My main concern right now is am I getting enough fluids and protein in.  There are so many different opinions!!   Do I shoot for 64 oz. fluid and get whatever protein I can for the first couple of weeks, until the nausea is totally gone??

Yeah!!  Congratulations!  I PM'd you...focus on walking, resting, & sipping.  Protein & vitamins will come....your body has enough in reserve, especially the vitamins/minerals, that they do not need to be your main focus right now.  Definitely shoot for 64 oz of fluids a day...you do not want to become dehydrated or you could find yourself back at the hospital.

Thank you for your replies!  Today is a better day.  Warm decaf tea and isopure clear drinks are going down and not making me queasy thank God!!

It's great when you get past nausea.  Dehydration can cause nausea as well so keep drinking.  There were days that only ho****er would go down for me.  I would rest my warm mug on my stomach and it felt so good.  Keep experimenting with different liquids and temps because every hour might be a new preference.  If you can handle protein shakes that is great too.  I like the Premier pre-made shakes from Costco still because they are the consistency of milk rather than a thick shake and I don't have to make them.

Don't wait for the nausea to be gone but your initial focus is on hydration. You will see this a
hundred times because dehydration can cause so many issues - sip, sip , sip.

As you get out a little more then start experimenting with protein shakes and solid protein
once your surgeon OK's it. but don't be in a rush.

The general rule of thumb is 30gms of protein after 30 days, 60 after 60 days , and 90 after 90 days.
I didn't make it the first month but things got a little better into the 2nd month and no problem
at the start of the 3rd month. I even started to really want to eat.

I hope the nausea stays at bay. You don't need another thing to work on this early out.

Thank you again!  I've done really well with the fluids today! I got in a 20 oz. Bottle of isopure,  2 mugs of hot tea, a sobe life water, 12 oz. Nectar protein drink and I just cracked a bottle of water!!!  I even started my five separate doses of vitamins.  My stomach doesn't hurt.  No pain meds needed anymore!!!  The only downside today is about 4 bouts of diarrhea. Ugh!  I'm only five days out so it was a good day!
