ds as revision, who's had it?
There are plenty of people that do the DS in 2 stages. With the Sleeve first and then the switch. Re-sleeve
usually only happens if the surgeon sees that there has been a lot of stretching.
I'm with the others that I would prefer the DS over the gastric bypass but if the only 2 choices you have are
the sleeve or RnY then I would go with RnY. Possible weight regain with both but you already know that you
can regain with the sleeve. I'm not sure having another one gains you anything. A lot of times any malabsorption
will give you a better chance to keep the weight off but it is still not the best solution in my mind.
Good luck,
Pete
I had RNY in 2000. In Dec of 2011 had revision to DS. No complications and love how I feel. Best decision I've ever made. Would not recommend RNY to you and I agree with all the previous posts, they have given you wonderful advice. Find the best DS doctor you can and see what he advises! Best wishes!
I had a stomach stapling in 1985. Never really lost any weight. Was too young to take care of it and there was no education provided. Tried and tried over the years to get a revision. When I had my upper GI ...doctor stated that the staple line had come undone and I had two complete stomachs. I had a DS in June this year. I am so happy to be on this journey and love the roads I am going down. I have had four different bad stomach pains from either eating too fast or over eating. (still working on this) I have not had anyother complications or problems. PCP took me off of my diabetes meds and now all I am on is thyroid (will be on it for life) and HB meds....working on getting off of them!!!
I have to say this is the easiest procedure I have ever had. I had it on Tuesday afternoon and was dismissed on Thursday afternoon. Dreaded the trip home but it wasn't even bad (350 miles). I had no nausea... very little pain. The only time I have problems is when I eat too fast...eat too much...don't chew enough....wait more than four hours to eat. Stomach acids build up. I still have problems with most meat....eggs other than fried ...raw vegetables especially broccoli. With DS you do not absorb very much fat....so fats help you. You need lots of moisture with your foods....to make them "sliders"....I eat a lot of gravy and sauces. I cannot take most protein drinks or yogurt. ...can't stand the chalky or sweet. I drink GENEPRO. ..it is oderless and tasteless. ...I drink it all day with crystal light. Get in a support group for DS' ERS...the veterans can give you so much info...don't be scared...it is the best thing you can do for yourself! Keep in touch!
I first ordered directly from the company. Now I order it from Amazon. It gets to me in just a few days and there is no shipping charges. I am on my 5th bag. Blood work is great and I have lost 72 lbs since June.
